How to be mindful??

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to ask if anyone had any helpful tips on being mindful on stressful situations? And how to stay mindful??

I’m not sure why but sometimes I feel like my thoughts can get triggered by something that didn’t even happen (or I guess, “Generalized Anxiety”) to be more exact, I guess there are times where I’ll perceive things or situations as threatening when they clearly aren’t.

What do you do in times like this? How can it be made better where I don’t have to feel or think like this?

any input would be great and appreciated!

@mayarsaur

Hi there. I'm still working on this. It is hard to be mindful when stressed. I started out by just doing little things. I found doing things like taking 10 deep breaths or listening to a mindfulness video or progressive muscle relaxation just too much to manage in a difficult situation. So I did some of the following.

Mentally state what I'm going thru. "I'm stressed", "I'm panicking", "I'm angry", "I'm afraid" or whatever. It only takes a moment but it helped put me in the present.

One breath. Just a quick pause for an in and an out. For me. It quickly became a reset. Just one breath to reset the spiralling and see other options.

Clench my fists and release. A moment to release a bit of tension that I'm not even aware is there.

The trick is definitely to find what works for you. So I understand if these are no good for you. I just wanted to show that it doesn't need to be big or time consuming.

The guys on the mindfulness forum can probably give you more ideas.

Good luck.
