How to prevent spiralling thoughts

Hello,

For the past year I have been struggling with controlling some thoughts that randomly pop up in my head. They're usually related to the same topic.

I was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to ground yourself when this happens? If I think too much about it it's worse so I was looking for tips on how to completely forget about them.

I tried the basic writing things I see, hear, smell, touch, etc. But it's not really helpful anymore.

I can understand mostly tey're an overreaction of the reality, but when it's happening I can't really push them away.

Any tips are welcomed.

Thank you.

This sounds overwhelming. I don't really know if thoughts can be controlled. Mine are determined to be let out, the more I try to ignore, the louder it gets.

I do know there is a temporary thing you can try but it's not permanent.

You can say, Listen up brain, I hear you, I know you want to address this, but I'm just not ready at the moment, I will focus on it another time, when I'm ready. I'm not ignoring you.

Other than that, I just write it out, find the root cause and try to deal with it. Or if I need comfort, I might say to myself.

Ok this situation is unpleasant, it's making me feel nervous and shaky. However I am strong enough to deal with this, I am safe and I will eventually get through it, just might take some time.

I hope you feel more at peace soon :)

It took me over a year for my thoughts to subside. My thoughts cased me a lot of anguish, anxiety and panic attacks.

I would watch meditation videos or affirmation videos on YouTube to calm my brain. Even try a new hobby, something like jigsaw puzzles or diamond art.

Put some earbuds in and listen to music, sometimes this can help with a cluttered mind.

Hope you find something that helps you, sending lots of hugs 🫂 🤗 🫂🤗🫂🤗

If it is the same disturbing thought I would recommend asking what is true in this emotionally and intellectually and possibly for others.
