I have severe driving anxiety
Im 23 and dont have my license and feel like a failure. Every time i get behind the wheel my heart races my hand shake i feel like im not in control. Ive had this fear for a very long time and im trying to get over it. This probably sounds stupid to most because driving is a basic necessity but its such a terrifying experience for me. Im driving with a driving instructor tomorrow though itll just be in a parking lot i still fell so anxious and stressed about it. I want to overcome this problem and live my life normally i just wish i knew how. Please if you have advice please tell me what i should do. Thank you

Take a deep breath and do not be hard on yourself.............
if you realize many many people out there driving feel the exact same way ...... other drivers are not all filled with confidence and you are not
You are in control of your vehicle while others are moving around you.
when you are nervous start small and gradually you will be driving along with others..
@minipip .. Well done for trying and for coming here to discuss it; what you experience is very normal for new driving learners; as learning a new skill is new at first- things that are new can take time to adjust to- during this process to the point until you get your liscence feeling anxiety is very normal. As for overcoming this; just remember its your journey, and go at your pace- not in relation to what societal demands of age to complete something in. are not relevant (its your journey) ways to overcome can include breathing techniques, maybe if you have a friend who can show you how they drive?.. taking it slowly -keeping a driving book with what you feel is causing the anxiety and actions you have taken to help this (writing can help) informing your instructor of how you feel ...You will get there.. with time and new driving information learnt the anxiety easily lessens... to the point it was a distant memory... we are all different and there is much support available... Good Luck on your driving journey:)
Hey there first of all i want you to know its very normal even though its a basic necessity its not necessary for everyone to be good at it. It's a very serious thing to drive properly so i would suggest try to get used to be on roads like try another vechile like bike, scooty or even a cycle. I may be wrong but trying these things you may feel more confident and able to drive in traffic. Also confidence is the key. So try to relax while you drive, see it as driving a toy car while you were a child. Give it importance but not so much that it makes you anxious. I hope these were helpful. Happy and safe driving :)
also in the end if you are still not able to do its okay i am not telling you to give up its just that its okay dont feel too bad about it.
@minipip
I think you're so brave! For trying and persevering, for scheduling help with an instructor, and also for talking about it here. I'm working toward my license too, and I can relate to feeling a lot of stress and anxiety about feeling in control of the vehicle. It can be really scary! I've found that just doing simple laps at 2 or 3 miles per hour (in American measurements) in an empty parking lot helped me feel more comfortable. Everyone is different though, so while that may or may not work for you, I hope you can gain some confidence by going at your own pace. I promise you're not a failure for feeling anxious or for not having your license yet! Everyone has to start somewhere, and making mistakes is normal. When you think of driving, try not to focus on the ideas of traffic or freeways - this can definitely make driving feel overwhelming. As someone else in this thread said already, focusing on starting small is a great way to start slow and work up to building your confidence! Even though it seems impossible, small steps will still take you there. 👣
Best of luck on your driving journey, I believe in you! 🚗~~✨
