On holiday, not by my own accord
30 years of employment by the same company. Laid off 6 months ago. I’m not having the fun and relaxation I thought I was going to have. I haven’t lifted a finger to search for a new job and with AI taking over I’m feeling unsure and not confident. Been ruminating about money and I’m just going in circles. I have no motivation to seek a job but since I wasn’t born filthy rich I’m going to have to get back to it. So basically I’m feeling alone and defeated.

Thirty years with the same company is a huge part of your life, so it makes sense that being laid off feels like losing more than just a paycheck. You don't have to figure everything out today. Maybe the goal right now is just one small step, updating your resume, browsing job postings, or reaching out to someone in your network. Thank you, 30 years of employment with the same company is impressive.. what is not impressive is, I didn’t get any updated skill sets. It was just a customer service job. I don’t know if I have any skills sets that will transfer to whatever the job market is now

Customer service skills are still needed. everyplace we work has either internal or external "customers " and it is amazing how many people cannot get along and have a good attitude in both positive and negative experiences.
Being laid off or let go is a real shock to the system it is hard to bounce back and ruminating or feeling lost is normal. It really is not personal, but we cannot help but take it that way.
Not sure of your location but I found doing temp work at one point in life gave me many new skills and let me try before I buy type look at companies. some places looked good from outside, but a year placement showed me the inside culture was not something I wanted to be a part of.
After 30 years you will compare places with your past employment which is good and bad because maybe new place lacks in some areas as an employer and yet their way of doing other things is better.
It is hard to let go of what the other place did but will help when you move on.
