Thoughts about my voice
I had thoughts today about my voice, and for the context, my voice is really really low for a women, and because of that, people said to me that I sound like a man because of it, and my whole childhood and teenage times people always said to me that I sound like a man and I had insecurities about my voice and I was trying to make my voice sound really high and I damaged it by doing so but not so hard, and after years, my voice sounded a little bit higher but still low but not that low but it's because I was really tense my whole life, and when I'm relaxed my voice is really really low.
So, I had thoughts that I might be in danger because of my voice (I live in Ukraine and in my country people are really conservative, that is, they think that if a women sounds like a man or have a low voice then it's not a women, that's a man.) and maybe my voice DOES sound like a man's voice, and I thought that insecurities were in the past but I think I thought so because I was tense and my voice wasn't that low so... And now I think I still have insecurities about my voice but... I don't know, maybe it's just thoughts but still...
Hi @affectionateOwl4692 ✨
Thank you for sharing… I personally like low voices in women, I think they make them sound really interesting 😊✨
Sending you lots of good vibes ✨

That sounds so hard to deal with. You don't have any control over your voice. I don't know why people think it's okay to comment on physical traits when we can't control them. I am sorry that you have to deal with this.

I'm a woman and I also have a low-sounding voice but I'm from the Caribbean. I get complimented on my deep sounding voice but I used to paraphrase my response as, 'So, you like that I sound like a man?' 😒 I couldn't understand those compliments; I used to think they were just mocking me.
Regardless of how many compliments I received, and from different people - both men and women, I felt uncomfortable about my deep voice. After very many years, I ignored how different I sounded in my family and community but I still felt indifferent to those compliments.
And the only times my tone was high was if I was startled or surprised or calling for help because I was in distress. 😄 Imagine that! I thought that I sounded like a female only in those situations. 😏
Now, I genuinely smile and say, "Thank you!" when I get complimented - which is seldom now.
So, I shared this to say that even though we are uniquely different and in different hemispheres, with different people having opposing perspectives on our deep tone of voice, it really comes down to how we perceive and appreciate ourselves.
Cheer up and love yourself still!
Ура!!
Thank you for sharing your story, it was so sweet ☺️
I'm really glad that I'm not alone and everything is ok now for you 💕

Well, I cannot be in your shoes, since my voice is high-pitched, but not in a pleasant way. I was also bullied for a while, made fun that I have a "childish voice" and that I "cannot be taken very seriously". Wished I had a deeper voice so people wouldn't think like that. Do not wish to deny your experience, but trust me: you are better with a deeper voice than a higher-pitched one, because at least you can impose more seriousness and confidence that way

Also, it's ok to have a high pitched voice, many women have a voice like that and they are taken really seriously so, people just need to be more aware that we are different and we can't change what mother nature give to us, because in reality, there's nothing wrong with how we sound, I matter how low or high our voices are we are still human beings that deserves respect and kindness 🫂💕
