I got a colouring book, and it helps me focus on that and not worry about anything else at that time

@VickyP I like painting my nails because I know I can't work on anything else until they're dry. So I can let go of fears or responsibilities for at least that period of time. Family doesn't completely understand that the weekly ritual of sitting and doing my nails isn't just so they look nice when I leave the house but also for my mental health. They all questioned why I would bother doing them now when we're stuck in the house during quarantine. I don't care if anyone else sees it, it just matters that I have that time scheduled weekly to take care of myself and relax

@charmingSummer1256 I love doing those too. My mother has so many of those books stashed in her room and every once in a while she'll pull them out and we'll all take time to work on an individual page. The books range from religious art pieces, geometric designs, garden scenes, mandalas, and hidden paint by numbers (so you can't tell what the picture is until you make some real progress). My favorite are the mystery pictures. Trying to figure it out keeps me motivated to keep going.

Which types of adult coloring books do you enjoy working on?

@SecretlyMe- I had my nails done in Feb- acrylics- loved being pampered and planned to have the fills in march- guess what- now all personal care is cancelled- It may sound silly but I was really looking forward to that appt. So now I have half grown out nails- yuk. I love your self care time doing something just for yourself. Take care.

@barncat Its terrible that personal care like nail appointments are being cancelled. Of course I understand why, but it still stinks that we needed to lose these little rewards that we were giving ourselves. Sometimes its those little things that keep our anxiety in check or our depression at bay. It might sound silly to other people to get upset over a missed manicure but I completely understand. When things are going wrong, those little moments are what motivates us to keep going.

I hope that you can reschedule your appointment soon. In the meantime, have you found any other self care activities that substitute these appointments. How have you been pampering yourself at home?

@SecretlyMe- the ironic thing is it was the only special way I spruced up my appearance- dont wear makeup and usually am in overalls and barn boots. I have three horses - so am almost always dirty. They are my huge way of spoiling myself and staying sane. Stay safe and enjoy your time for yourself!!

@barncat you too! I hope you find a new way to relax and pamper yourself. Even if it's something small like taking a bubble bath or meditating or practicing yoga

@SecretlyMe : I like to listen to guided meditations. They get you to deep breathe and focus on various parts of your body. It's really soothing, especially at bedtime.

@imaginativeCucumber5553 Meditation audio is my sure fire way to get to sleep when I don't feel sleepy or when my mind wont calm down. As long as my phone is face down so the light doesn't bother me, I am sure to be sound asleep by the end of the audio.

I sooo understand that. Taking that extra time per week to take care of yourself, the fact that it is an activity that requires your full attention and it is time when we cannot do anything else, as we need to wait for everything to dry, makes it perfect to relax and take our mind off anything else! And, honestly, I 've been painting my nails more often now that I am in quarantine than I did before, as the extra free time daily gives me more time to focus on myself too.😃 Thank you for sharing!

I like to sit down and color in a coloring book, but when I dont have a physical one, I do a color by number on my ipad. I also like to do puzzles. They keep your brain focused and pass the time quickly.
