How do you feel after having a panic attack?

Hiya Everyone,

Anxiety can be different for everyone so I was wondering what thoughts and feelings you experience after having a panic attack.

I'd say I feel drained and hopeless. Sometimes depression kicks in afterwards too.

Let me know!

Usually I feel lost and drained after having a panic attack, it varies sometimes. Lost in a sense that it takes me a while to realize my surroundings and come back to reality, I also will feel angry only if I've had a panic attack in public because I usually don't want anyone to see me get one! <3

@Yendi

Yes, I get you! I get frustrated when people have had to see and try to help me when having a panic attack too. We feel drained because we have been breathing so fast it's like we've run a marathon! Thank you for sharing. laughheart

@blossombreathe

Yes frustated is the better word I should've used haha, and the thing is, it's nice of them wanting to try help but it's also difficult since you're doing your own thing of calming down after a panic attack! It does feel like a marathon and no problem. ❤︎

Depends on the panic attack and my reaction to it. If its a full on PA, I usually self-harm and then, after, tend to my wounds, eat some baby food and lay down, feeling extremely drained. If it's a smaller one, if there is such thing, I dance until I'm exhausted enough to sleep.

I always get tired and drained aftwerwards anyway.

@blossombreathe Since I was 12, however no one knows, expect my partner but not even my parents are aware of it. I was always very careful but Im aware that it is not healthy and Ill be discussing that with my new therapist. :)

BUT

Good thing is it doesnt last forever. It it a symptom of a fear that I havnt yet fully addressed. That I will and then I wont have this fear

Usually after having a panic attack I feel very depressed as well as feeling hopeless and very defeated. I really wish that I no longer had anymore panic attacks.

@DapperRaspberries I'm so sorry you're going through panic attacks. They can be very difficult to handle. When I had panic attacks in the past, I found myself very exhausted and lightheaded afterwards. The reason for this is because of shallow breathing during the panic attack. Again, I'm very sorry you're suffering. I've found that meditation and mindfulness are extremely beneficial in that it helps us control our thoughts and helps us pay more attention to our breathing. When you inhale, your belly should expand and when you exhale, it should sink in. A lot of us breathe opposite from that which causes shallow breathing and can create a panic/anxiety attack. I hope this helps.
