Anxiety and things I allegedly enjoy

Hey, I just wondered who else felt that there things they wanted to do - a new game to play, a skill to learn, etc - but when free time presents itself, you avoid doing it because you're worried it will be a let down. Or you do it, but feel fomo over the other things you want or should be doing?

Any ideas how to get around this? Or am i just super weird?

Hey @neatOak1913, nice to meet you.

It is absolutely okay and valid how you feel, not weird at all, and I'm sure many relate with you, I do too.

I feel there's alot of things that stop us from doing things we'd enjoy, the "what ifs" are the worst usually lol ~ funnily the anxious brain jumps quickly to the not so nice kinda what ifs, and makes us feel more stuck and anxious.

I'm wondering if we try to rephrase with a "what if I have fun doing X?" Or "what if X turns out to be the bestest activity to spend time for me?" -- perhaps it could help to actually give a shot to X and nor turn it away. What do you think? ❤

Something else I'd like to add is, if it's something you feel you'd enjoy, and would like to partake in, better go for it and see if it turns out how you wished, if yes then Yay, if not then no worries, we can always keep trying and exploring our interests.

On that note, what's something you'd like to try soonish? 😄

@neatOak1913 i can relate to that it's happening with me too and the way i go around it is just by jumping straight to the thing I want to do because what is the worst thing that can happen? i won't like it? I won't pass it or whatever? ok no problem this can happen and there's no problem with that but at least i tried and i gained any kind of experience out of it, trying new things is always a very nice thing to do and it can be very fun think about it like a journey

For me, there are so many things I enjoy that I don't do because I feel selfish doing them. I always feel that if I'm enjoying something then I must be letting someone down because I am not giving my energy or time to them. That often leads to a panic attack. I have found the best thing is to plan my week in advance and write those activities i enjoy into my diary. Once I have scheduled the time for myself it is easier to see how much time I still have for others. I just need to keep reminding myself it isn't selfish to want a bit of me for me.
