Hello everyone.

Im in my first year of university and ive recently (maybe for the past 2 months) have been having trouble falling asleep almost everynight due to anxiety. Im always so worried that i might die in my sleep and noone will be around to notice until its too late. I feel my heartbeat and the more i think about it, the louder it feels. Being here at university has definitely taken a toll on my physical health and i think this, mixed with all the sress of exams and assignments is the root of all these trouble and is whats making me think im gonna have a heart attack or something. Does anyone have any experience with these types of issues? Thanks :)

It sounds like health anxiety which is quite common! The anxiety makes you feel worse and your heart races, which draws your attention to your heartbeat and then you worry even more - it's a neverending cycle. Realising that you're not going to have a heart attack, that it is anxiety causing the increase in your heart rate and that your heart is capable of beating insanely fast without leading to a cardiac arrest, will break that cycle hopefully.:) If it's really bothering you or doesn't go away, you should see your doctor about it. :)

All of this is perfectly valid and your feelings are no doubt okay to have. You may want to talk to a doctor/professional about it. You'll get through this <3
