Anxious and stressed

My friend reminded me of some painful past events about people that treated me and my boyfriend like garbage and now I can't stop thinking about this. Soon, me and him are going to my hometown and I can't get over the thought that I might meet those people again.. The things is that the chances of meeting them are low but at the same time I can't stop making the "what if" scenarios in my head 🥲 I'm really anxious about this

@willingFig5196 hey I hope you don't run into people who make you feel uncomfortable but if you do, you could exercise some patience and tact and deal with the situation. Maybe you can talk to your boyfriend about it and you both can collectively come up with some ways to handle the situation better. I hope everything goes okay with you.

@willingFig5196 I hope you two will continue to work together and share to figure out a solution. It would be great if you didn't meet those people.

Hey, I'm really sorry to hear that. I know it can be very hard to get those "what-ifs" out of your head despite knowing it's not likely to happen. I really hope you don't meet those people and I'm sure you and your boyfriend will be able to get through this together. (:

Hi there! It sounds really difficult to have those painful memories come up, especially with an upcoming trip to your hometown. It's completely natural to worry about 'what if' scenarios, even if the chances of running into those people are low. Have you considered ways to prepare yourself mentally for the trip? Sometimes, having a plan in place for how to handle unexpected encounters can help ease some of that anxiety. Remember, you’re not alone in feeling this way, and it’s okay to talk about it. How are you feeling about the trip overall?

Hi willing Fig!

It's completely understandable to feel anxious when past hurtful experiences are brought back to the surface, especially when you're about to return to a place that might remind you of those times. It's natural for 'what if' scenarios to pop up, but it's also a challenge to manage them when they start to feel overwhelming.

Have you found any strategies that help you calm your mind when these thoughts come up? It might also be helpful to think about setting some boundaries for yourself while you're in your hometown to protect your emotional well-being. And if you feel up to it, perhaps discussing your fears with your boyfriend could provide some comfort and support.

Remember, it's okay to feel anxious, but it's also possible to find ways to cope with these feelings.💞

@willingFig5196 Hey, it sounds like this is heavily on your mind right now and causing you a lot of anxiety. I can see two ways of looking at it 1. Hope you don't see those awful people (and I hope thats the outcome) or 2. Be prepared for it if you do. Do you need to talk to them or not, if so plan what you would say. What would your self talk sound like (keeping it positive towards yourself), how would you manage the anxiety (possibly deep breathing). I wonder if you were prepared would you feel more in control.

@willingFig5196It’s completely normal to feel anxious about past experiences, especially when you’re heading back to your hometown. Try to focus on the present and the positive aspects of your trip with your boyfriend. Remind yourself that the chances of running into those people are low, and even if you did, you’re in a better place now. It might help to practice some calming techniques, like deep breathing, when those "what if" thoughts arise. You’ve got this!

@willingFig5196 Hey! I can understand how your friend’s reminder has brought up some difficult memories, and now the thought of possibly running into those people feels overwhelming. Even though we know, the chances are low, our mind keeps on reminding us of possibilities that have been fearing us. It can be so hard to shake those feelings, especially when they involve past hurt.

I hope the journey goes great and you both have fun and it also helps you heal.
