Does anyone else randomly become paranoid?

Sometimes, for no reason, my brain snaps. So hypothetically, I'm having a fun time with friends, then all of a sudden, everything seems very real. You immediately become aware of your surroundings. Sometimes this comes with an intrusive thought. Common ones are "one day I'll die" and "what if I'm the only consious person here and everyone else is an illusion". When this happens, it feels like time stops. I then sometimes become slightly paranoid at these thoughts and start dissociating with everything. It doesn't last long and doesn't effect me strongly, but I get just get extremely paranoid about things like this sometimes. Does it have a name?

Hello @DefaultUser2

It sounds like you might be having some anxious thoughts. Paranoia would be thinking people are "are out to get you". While these thoughts can be scary, they can be managed and overcame :) While we can't chat one-on-one since I am a teen, there are many adult listeners who are more than willing to help <3

@DefaultUser2 Yes, some people randomly become paranoid.

In fact, although I'm not an expert, the people I've met who've suffered from paranoia have not suffered from it all the time. It only happened to them randomly, like you describe.

Yes, it has a name. When you have a symptom just sometimes, for no reason, it's called an episode. General feelings like when your brain snaps, or everything seems very real, or you become paranoid, or you dissociate, may be called by the general name psychosis. So if you search the Internet for information about psychotic episodes you'll find a lot has been written about these kinds of experience.

If it's interfering with your life, or getting worse, then you can talk to a doctor about possible treatments. Some people find that medication, therapy, or self-help groups can be valuable, but everyone is different.

If you'd ever like to chat about your experiences, feel free to click on my profile picture and message me.
