Does technology make anxiety worse?

I'm thinking yes. When people didn't have phones unless they were attached to a wall in their homes, there wasn't any waiting around for text replies. (I see you online - the message was delivered - why aren't you responding??!?!) That kind of thing. It's irritating that it happens. Why don't you respond? Are you mad at me? What did I do? Spiral, spiral, spiral and then everything is a mess.

Sometimes I almost think it would be better to just get a land line again and get rid of cell phones all together. One less anxiety trigger.

I can completely relate to this, when ever I send a message I always find myself analysing it and re reading it. Especially when the person doesn't respond even when they have been active online. I often think, 'you don't have time for me' or 'have I upset you' so many possibilities go through my mind. It's exhausting. It gets to the point where I wish I didnt have a smart phoe at all. But then I wonder how Lonely I would be if it was gone. If it became much harder to get in contact with me... Would anyone even bother you know?

@thoughtfulmomma I think that stuff has gotten better with anxiety, after eletronics like mobile phones and such has become more advanced. It actually helps my anxiety a lot, to be able to check up on what train I should take, listen to music, being able to use the map to find places and such. It has actually made me able to go out more, and be less scared because I know I can always find home, or call someone to come and get/find me :)

Absolutely - there are plenty of good things about my phone. I appreciate the maps, and being able to search for things while I'm out. It's just when it creeps into the communication portion of it that it seems to ruin me, or the "find friends/phone" option where you can see where others are. I had to stop checking that all the time. It was driving me nuts. Now I just have to relax on messaging and when people don't respond, and I'll start feeling better about my phone.
