Hi

Does anyone else feel really affected by other people's moods? I feel like a sponge and a yoyo!

Yes, all the time! You're not alone on this :) I've never thought of it like a yo-yo or sponge before, but I think that's a great way to describe it. I get that, feeling like you 'soak up' or carry the weight of other people's feelings. Being an empath can lead to deeper connections and a special sense of others' feelings, but it can also mean carrying heavy emotional baggage. That can become overwhelming quickly, so being in tune with your own feelings and giving yourself space is important!

It's always lovely to meet a fellow empath 💙 I know it's been a couple months, I'd love to hear how you've been doing!

I can relate to this too. I tend to be really affected by the moods of people around me - if someone is happy, I can find myself feeling happier, and if they’re sad or upset, I can start feeling that too. It can feel very reflective, almost like I’m picking up whatever emotions are around me. There’s nothing wrong with having empathy or being sensitive to what others are feeling, and experiencing that doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with you. You’re doing perfectly fine, even if those emotions can sometimes feel like a lot to carry.

@modestLion158 I really relate to this. Feeling like a sponge for other people's emotions is so exhausting, and it can be hard to separate what's yours from what you're picking up from others. You're definitely not alone in this. Have you found anything that helps you ground yourself when you feel overwhelmed by others' moods? Sending you support.

@modestLion158 totally! I always feel like I am affected by the people around me. Whether someone is happy, sad, or bored, it plays a huge role in how I act or what I say.

Oh absolutely 💛 I hear you so clearly—being like a sponge and a yo-yo sounds so draining, absorbing everyone else’s energy then swinging along with it. It’s such a real, common thing, especially if you’re naturally sensitive or empathetic. It doesn’t mean anything’s wrong with you—it just means you feel deeply. It can be really overwhelming, and it makes total sense you’re asking this. 💛
