Feeling like a lonely loser who has no purpose
I am 24 year old doctor. I always had a bad relationship with my father because he never needed me in his life. Recently i realized that my brothers have turned their backs on me too with my mother only one remaining in my corner. D/t these family issues, i have started to distance myself from ppl. I dont make friends anymore and i dont wanna meet up any of my prev. Frnds because i feel like they dont need me and i am just like an acquaintance to them. Everybody i know is either getting married or is already acheiving something in their life. While i am stuck in this boring routine where i dont achieve anything worthwhile. I have always felt like i have to work thrice as hard as ppl in my life to get to achieve my goals and even then i always fall short. Why is my life so much harder than other people. I think i deserve some happiness either in case of family or work. But these things just dont work out for me. I have no one to talk to because i just cant open up about my feelings to anyone not even my mother. And even when i try to open up, people just dismiss me by saying that i have everything, i am just being whiny. So i have just stopped talking to ppl about meaningful stuff altogether. But i need to tell someone that i am so alone and tired of always having to be responsible, cheerful and hardworking. Most of all, i just wanna be needed by someone who can listen to me and underatand me but because of ky depression, i feel like i am in a vicious cycle of avoiding people and the feeling hurt and alone when i dont have anyone to talk to. I need a miracle to get out of this rut that i am stuck in.
Firstly, you shouldn't fall into the trap of comparing yourself with others. You have no idea how much they had to sacrifice and go through to reach their successes, you only see the end result. Even then you don't see how they really feel behind their responsible, cheerful and hardworking facade. Secondly, being needed by someone is overrated. Either by your friends, or the love of your life. Those relationships are going to cause strain and friction and you will eventually either fade away from them and get cold and distant, get jealous when they find someone else and replace you, or they won't accept or allow any positive changes into your life and hold you back from being a better version of yourself. I think it's more healthy to strive for relationships where you both want to be a part of each other's life and work towards that goal without expecting anything in return, those same relationships where you make each other a better person. Even people with lots of friends or a significant other can still feel lonely, they aren't immune. Everyone feels lonely. You just need to understand that you aren't really alone, and figure out methods for coping with the feeling of being alone in a positive way. Not throwing your baggage at someone else and weighing them down in a toxic relationship. Now tell me this; how do you expect someone else to truly love you if you can't love yourself? You shouldn't describe yourself with words such as a lonely loser. If you want to keep your friendships you will need to put in constant effort. Instead of not going out with old friends because they don't need you, try to go out more often with them whenever you can. The positive vibes and fun will help you have a good time, and since you know them you will feel safe and comfortable. You could even meet other people outside of the friend group that way, potentially. Instead of isolating yourself and avoiding making new friends, try to make friends with people who seem genuine or at least keep an open mind if they try to be friendly towards you. About your relationship with your family, you should try your best to repair the broken bonds. It sure takes a lot to sever the bonds of family and you shouldn't give that up easily. You can't force anyone into a relationship that they don't want to be in, but you can at least put in all of your effort so you can say you did everything that you could. You're looking at everything in a negative way and letting your dark thoughts get the best of you. From beginning to end I can see it all throughout your post. The majority of people in your life won't want to listen to you talk about things that are meaningful if you're always going to be like this. You need to break out of the habit of victimising yourself, and try to think about where you can make positive changes to influence your life to steer it in the right direction, and let go of things which you can't control. Lastly, you talked about having no purpose. You need to find your purpose and meaning in life and work towards it. Once you've realised that you have more control over all this than you first thought, then you can set goals and milestones and work on building healthy habits and removing self-sabotage from your life. I recommend you seek help from a therapist and it might help to have that human connection and face time. This long post is making my phone slow down so I'll just say a few more things. Sorry for the tough love towards you, this one hit close to home. If everyone could send a lot of love I'd appreciate it. Just try to remember you aren't alone. Hope everything works out for you in the end.
