Frustrated by friends and anxious

I was in an emotionally abusive relationship that just ended last Tuesday- I was used for money, and was expected to drop everything and everyone for this guy. He would belittle my feelings and tell me they're invalid because sometimes I couldn't explain why I felt a certain way. He would never listen to me when fought, blaming me for our constant arguments. We never found resolutions because he just would talk over me. I was in another emotionally abusive relationship before this one, but this was much worse.

I'm angry and so hurt that I gave it my all and was honestly in it for the right reasons and was sucked in by his trickery. My friends saw through him, and now they pretty much just act like it was no big deal. A few of my friends are single and get mad when I say that I hope I eventually meet someone nice. I'm tired of listening to people and their problems, but most of the time I can't really get people to listen to me. I've got a past history of getting into relationships when I shouldn't, but I learned a lot this go around.

Is it a crime to eventually want to be happy with a man? I don't think so.

@Lesleya22

Wow, that does sound very frustrating. Just know that it's not your fault and you did the right thing by leaving that abusive relationship. I hope some day your friends will understand how you felt and why you needed to break up. <3

@DiamondSpace, he actually broke up with me, accusing me of not wanting to be with him anymore. Yeah, when you yell at me for wanting to talk to my dad who is calling in the morning when he rarely calls while we are talking, I am going to want to break free.

People like to judge and think they're right when they don't really know what they're talking about. This person is terrified of being hurt again so they don't put themselves out there and then gets mad and say who cares if I can't find a good guy eventually. Sorry, but there's no way I'm listening to that.

@Lesleya22

You go girl! So glad that you realize how stupid some people's ideas or opinions might be.

@DiamondSpace, definitely! I just need to be more choosy on who I pick to talk to.

Hi @Lesleya22, happy for you that you learned a lot from this experience, and hopefully you are feeling safer and more free now. Everyone wants to be happy so it definitely isn't a crime to wish to be happy :) I'm sure everyone wants to find a nice partner to live with - and on the flipside, we might fear not finding someone nice to be with. People change, and aren't perfect, so relying on someone else to be happy generally has risk. Hoping that you'll have good company always, and that you'll become your own safe person <3
