Going to therapy but I’m nervous

So on Friday, I called and booked an appointment at a therapy place. I’ve spent quite a lot of time searching online, looking for a place, and I finally gathered up the courage to call and book and appointment. They told me it’ll take a week max for them to schedule an appointment, and I’m just waiting for them to call back and tell me the date of my appointment.

However, I am starting in a new school in one month, and I’m very, very scared. I’ve been anxious practically every day, my fear of throwing up is kind of getting worse, and I need to sort out my self-esteem issues or else I’ll keep making the same mistakes I made in primary and secondary school, like being a people pleaser, a therapist friend, constantly thinking my friends hate me etc

im really relying on this therapist being good and I’m so scared they won’t be. If they won’t be good I don’t know what I’ll do, as I used to be able to handle my problems but it’s been years and I just can’t do it anymore. I spent years bottling everything up and now I can’t deal with any of my fears any more. Im spiralling again and I really know I need help.

So I guess I’m just worried that my therapist and I won’t click, or something, or that they won’t be able to help me. I don’t know how I’ll deal with myself if they can’t help me.

@Silentlywishing

Hey there, firstly, I am so, so proud of you reaching out for support, both here and with a therapist.

Starting any sort of support can be really scary, sharing makes us vulnerable, but as Kung Fu Panda states, through vulnerability comes strength!

It sounds stressful with the things at school.

Nothig will change immediately, these things tKe time. But you will get there. If you dont connect with your therapist, it's important to try and let them know ❤️

Well done for reachin out, take care

Thank you so so much for your answer! :D I really appreciate it.

the main issue is just that I really need help especially before my school orientation and I’m really scared I’ll get a bad therapist and I’ll have to help myself through the school orientation which will be really hard :(

it would be better if I didn’t have school so soon but oh well. I really hope my therapist is a good one…

@Silentlywishing

Hi Silentlywishing!

It seems natural to feel scared and nervous you are feeling right now, given that you are doing something new, different and opening your vulnerable side to others. I hear your concerns and worries about getting therapy. Because you may or may not find a connection with your therapist. And your therapist's words may or may not work on you, since what works for one person doesn't necessarily mean it will for everyone.

Yet, I hope you know how brave and courageous you are for taking this first step to reach out for support, and I am proud of you for being able to do so! All of us here are rooting for you, and all of us are still ever ready to listen to you should you need another listening ear. :)

@Silentlywishing hey sunshine <3 first of all best of luck with your new school, change always seems difficult but yeah when we hope for the best we welcome beautiful things into our lives.

you know i wonder how much courage it takes to be able to speak out, speak out the deepest side of yours to a person and yeah we definitely need to be sure that they are good enough.a trained therapist usually does help us but we always need a connection , i do hope you find it.

the first day to school, we are intimidated by our teachers but they become our friends by the end of the year,similarly this nervousness will settle down once you see your therapist.sending you best wishes. and yeah you can always choose what feels the best so nothing is irreversible. have faith, you will hopefully find the best. you got this and we , your 7cups family has your back <3

I just want to give you kudos for how proactive you are being in getting the assistance you need. You have reached out here and IRL I feel like if you keep doing what you are doing you will be ok. If this therapist doesn’t work out, you can cope and you can find a better one.

I can tell that you dearly want to succeed at this new school endeavor. As a very anxious person myself, I can really relate to the feelings you are experiencing, especially the fear of spiraling and the fear that all my friends hate me. The thing is, we can do things imperfectly, right? I mean, we can get positive outcomes from endeavors even if we sometimes people please, get anxious, say the wrong thing, or fail. If there are people who hate us, there are surely people out there broken like we are who can love us? Keep trying Silentlywishing and good luck! You are practicing courage!

Could the listeners or therapists here be helpful? I’m new here, so I’m not sure how all that works. I think I’ll try it out.

@Silentlywishing I understand it can be scary and how you're feeling right now totally makes sense often we don't find a therapist that we feel comfortable to open to but hey why worry about something we can't control of. You have come a long way and you should be proud of yourself of doing so❣️.

I understand it can be nerve wrecking you're entering a whole new space but I believe you'll make it through. I saw a post that said "when you take a picture of the moon or the sunset and it doesn't look as pretty as it does in real life you don't think 'the sky is ugly'. You know the camera isn't capturing the full beauty and you should feel the same way about yourself". I hope this post will help you feel a little less anxious and good about yourself 💖
