Having career anxiety
I am 20 years old, work full time at a bodyshop, and moved out of my parents with 2 roomates. Currently I dont know what to do with my life. I applied here because I wanted to learn how to fix cars/paint cars. But i am realizing it is very difficult to move up here. I can get moved up to painters helper but after these college kids graduate and quit. Even then theres no guarantee that I will be moved up or taught anything else as I have not seen anyone else paint besides our 1 painter. I am hesitant about asking to be taught anything because I am only a detailer and only worked here for 4 months.
I dont think I really care for a dream job, just a job that pays well and Im good at. Any advice?

Careers are difficult things to map out and are incredibly stressful, most especially when you're young. Where I had my career mapped out at your age was completely different to where it turned out and where I had my career mapped out when I changed professions 5 years ago is completely different to where I am now. How I diverged when the plans was by taking every day as it came and if opportunities popped up that interested me, I took advantage of them.
Ultimately, if you're interested in painting then letting them know that you're interested is actually a really good thing in my experience. If something comes of it, great. If nothing comes of it then you've lost nothing anyway. I'd also like to say that while you're not exactly sure where you want to go with your career now, that's perfectly normal. Almost everyone is like that so don't put pressure on yourself to have those answers. Even now in my life, I'm still open to career changes. Things generally work out.
