Health Anxiety
I am new here and thought I would give it a try. It’s honestly nice to know I am not alone in anxiety but curious if anyone else has health anxiety? I have been dealing with it on and off for close to 10 years ( wow the fact that it has been that long all while feeling like it just started yesterday). I have no actual health issues that have been diagnosed. I used to end up in the emergency room every time I turned around years ago to be told the same thing no health issues except anxiety. It had been years since I last went to an ER but a week ago my “what ifs” won and I went to get checked in the ER. Even though been told I am ok there is that small voice in the back of my head that try’s to convince me I am not and keeps the “what ifs” going. There is no evidence or basis in fact for the “what ifs”. Does anyone else deal with this kind of anxiety? If so what causes yours? Has it gotten any better? How do you deal with it? Mine has to do with my heart even though these is zero basis to the fear. I stumbled across a book called DARE and the app that goes with it and it have been very eye opening for me in the last week or so.

I experience health anxiety sometimes, sometimes for relatively minor things (like cavities). My tendency is catastrophize things. For example, my thinking goes something like this: I have a cavity, this means my teeth will fall out and I'll have to get dentures. And of course, I just know that if I wasn't so lazy and weak, I could have prevented the cavities and never been in the situation in the first place. My health anxiety is just one part of my control freak tendencies and belief that all negative situations will turn into utter disaster.
I'm anxious about almost everything in my life, so my health is no exception.
Hi! I am new here too and suffer from health anxiety with no real medical issues. I completely understand what you feel like. White coat syndrome is what I was told.. but it’s so much more. I’m here to talk! And here to listen.
