Hi everyone!

My name is Chip and I'm 32 years old. Like a couple of the posts Ive read I also have alot of trouble sleeping at night. This wasn't always the case for me but this anxiety thing just seemed to come out of nowhere and now its an ongoing issue. I am learning that I experience alot of negative thoughts on my day to day, like my job stressing me out all the time. I have thoughts and worries about my health, like when my body doesnt feel right, this gives me alot of anxiety thinking there is something seriously wrong but i end up being fine after the episode. During the day time i am usually fine but when i lay down to sleep, my mind wanders and my body is uneasy, like you feel that there is somthing physically wrong with you kinda feeling. This really messes with my ability to relax and sleep. My mind takes it to the extreme wondering if i sleep am i going to wake up. This has been haunting me for a while now, i hope to find some tools to help me overcome this.

@Chip225!

After reading your post I can relate to what you are saying about having a hard time sleeping at night. I’m like you during the day I’m usually fine and doing my activities normal but when it comes the time to go to bed I intend to worry not sure why. I don’t know about you but my body just doesnt seem to relax that my whole body starts to hurt and it’s even harder to fall asleep. Maybe all the worries, stress , that we just have during our day gets us so exhausted that it’s really hard for our bodies to fully relax at night time. We still have so much in our heads prefer to that day that it’s hard for our minds to go to sleep. Theirs times that I just don’t want to go to sleep because of the fear of who knows not even waking up the next day. I’m just thinking could it be something going on with us that we can’t fully enjoy sleep? What is working for me is I had to get psychiatry medication to help me so right now I take pills everyday to help me go to sleep. They supposedly call it insomnia and it’s terrible. Let me know if you had found any tools to overcome this it’s just hard living like this.

Hello Chip225,

I can fully relate to your post. Last fall, I experienced a lot of ongoing stress, which triggered my anxiety, including health anxieties. The physical sensations brought on by anxiety can be very overwhelming. I’m currently reading a book by Dr. Claire Weeks: “Help and Hope for Nervous Sufferers.” She teaches that when you accept and live with your physical symptoms, that they will eventually go away. She talks about “floating” through the symptoms and “let time pass,” and the physical sensations will eventually subside. I decided to give it a try, and in about 2 weeks my physical sensations started to subside. I’m also making sure I get enough sleep each night, exercise and eat right. OneTylenol PM with 1

mg Melatonin has really helped me sleep 7-8 hours each night. It’s super important to make sure you rest while your body is healing from anxiety. I also started therapy a few months ago, which helped me understand the importance of having those “visceral” experiences that helps your amygdala desensitize. We also worked on improving my thought life with new affirmations, and identifying my anxiety tiggers. I also asked my pastor to pray for me. He also suffered from anxiety many years ago, and could relate to my situation. I hope my story helped you some.

Take care, Chip! This too shall pass, and you will be like your old self soon. I’ll be praying for your recovery! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
