He won’t leave me alone
I have an abusive ex I broke up with in 2017. He’s been in jail since 2019. He put me through hell while we were dating. After we broke up it took me forever to trust anyone. I was so jumpy and would flinch every time someone tried to hug or touch me. I’ve had anxiety ever since. I had a protective order against him that expired October. He just transferred prisons Tuesday and yesterday I get an email from the jail saying he’s trying to send me a message. I had a panic attack at work when I got the email. I blocked the previous jail from contacting me. I thought he moved on. But the moment he’s somewhere new he messages me. He won’t leave me alone. I’m constantly afraid. How can I get over the anxiety he’s caused and is still causing?
I hope you know your feelings are completely valid, and I empathize with where you are coming from. I’m such a digital age (god I sound like a boomer, lol) it’s so hard to escape. My mom says this all the time “when I dated if you broke up, that was it! They just disappeared!” And it’s just not like that now. When these thoughts come up, what I find helpful for me with my bad thoughts, is taking control of your breathing. Just taking a deep breath, holding it in, and letting it out can do wonders when a stressful thought happens.
I feel for you. I hope he never contacts you again. But I think you should change take precautionary measures. Can you change address ? City ? I wish you could go as far as possible from him and the prison and start a new life. What if he tries to find you once he is out ? Think ahead and be safe.
