Horrible Night of "Sleep"

I don't know what happened last night, but I'm a mess. I had a really good evening. I was relaxed, had no worries. I watched a favorite TV show, and as I was laying there, I could feel my heart beating fast. I thought that perhaps it was because I just had a little caffeine and probably ate too much at dinner.

I tried to fall asleep around 11, with my usual deep breathing and meditation audio. But the whole night I was anxious, heart pounding, and I would fall asleep only to wake up every 30 minutes or so. It comes in waves - like waves of fear, and it makes me shaky and scared.

I'm exhausted now, but just want to get this night-long panic attack to stop. I have a ton of things to do today and I don't feel like I can move forward.

Hey! I'm really sorry to hear that this happened to you. I'm glad that you had a good evening and were relaxed then. Sometimes we have panic attacks that just seem to occur without any good reason. I think that subconsciously we're probably worrying/anxious about something and that's what brings out the panic. Caffeine can definitely play a part in making you more aware/awake which could send your body into hyperactivity. Regardless of the bad sleep that you got, I'm glad you were able to close your eyes in chunks of 30 minutes. A little sleep is better than none, but I'm really sorry you had to go through this. Take this next day easy and focus on yourself and making sure that you're ok. Hold on heart You can do this.

7 Cups also has a self-help guide for panic attacks. I would recommend checking it out if that's something you think could help.
