Interview anxiety

I was recently made it to a finalist round of a scholarship that I had devoted so much time on. The final round consists of a Zoom interview. I had a mock interview to prepare and I said so many filler words such as “um” , or “like.” The person who was doing the mock interview was very honest and told me to practice more with someone and I asked one of my mentors to interview me. Every time my interviewer would ask me a question, I could feel my throat start to close up on me and I’m not able to breathe until tears come running down my face. This is not the first time this had happened. I still practiced before the mock interview and still had that same habit. Thank god it wasn’t in person. Do any of you have any recommendations to prepare for interviews?

Hello @sympatheticPeach5579 , welcome to 7 cups ❤

Awh, I understand and relate with the performance anxiety, feeling anxious about something is also a sign that you care deeply for it and want to do well , and it's okay to be anxious and stressed about things important for us . The person taking the interview has at some point given an interview too, they may have felt anxious too, You're certainly not alone .❤

When feeling anxious , we have a lot of thoughts running through our mind , so how about writing these all down , a day or two before the interview, to free your mind of these worries .

Anxiety causes us to think of all the negative "what ifs" that could alll go wrong , but it helps to reassure yourself that you've been practicing for the interview , and you know what areas might need improvement, practicing with a mentor also helps familiarize with the "test" environment . Maybe after accepting your stress , affirm that What if Everything goes well , what if I am able to answer everything I am asked, what if I am able to impress my interviewer , what if I move one more step closer to my dreams , what if I pat myself and comfort myself that I know what is important to me , I've prepared for it , my anxiety will not get the best of me and at the end of the day I know I'll give my best and that's just what matters the most .

I've experienced music to have a calming effect on me , What is something that usually calms you down , when feeling stressed ? How do you feel about practicing it before the interview, or probably a quick meditation or deep breathing exercise, to relax your mind .

I am rooting for you, you'll do your best ,and that is enough, sending hugs and best wishes ! ❤
