Is it anxiety?
To be honest I'm not sure what anxiety is. Lately, everything has caused me to panic. Waking up in the middle of the night checking my heart and seeing its 90bpm I start panicking. I can't seem to think clearly. As a college student I need my mind more now than ever. I am uncertain if what I am feeling is anxiety. My doctor keeps prescribing me medication (that i am not taking) and I feel as if I just need a listening ear. If anyone has any techniques for anxiety reduction or panic attacks let me know.

it sounds like definitely anxiety. Coloring and listening to music is great. Also writing down how you feel. Telling yourself you are safe is very good. I know in the moment you don't feel safe but you are.
Hi @diligentAvocado5050,
What you describe sounds a lot like my anxiety and panic. I'm sorry. It's so painful and frustrating. If you feel like to need a listening ear, I would trust that gut feeling! There is a sharing circle chat room here 24/7 that gives anyone and everyone 7 minutes to speak what's on their mind to a supportive group. You can choose whether you want people to silently listen to your share or offer you encouragement and support. (no direct advice, just support.) I'm new here and have shared a few times in that room. It's been a big relief to be able to get some things off my chest.
I've also connected with a few listeners one-on-one. In just a couple days, I've connected with a couple of people I know I will chat with again. It's also nice to have the option to speak with someone totally new too.
As far as techniques for anxiety, I really like using an app called Insight Timer. I like audible grounding techniques and there is music there as well as guided meditations and even live talks and yoga. I will put in my earbuds and find something to listen to. It gives my mind something other than my own anxious thoughts. If I'm really into being nice to myself, I'll listen to something soothing while letting myself color. I like color by number books because there is zero thought to them. No fretting over what colors to use... Just coloring.
Hope some of this helps!
Hello @diligentAvocado5050,
I agree with the other posts—it definitely sounds like anxiety. When we’re under a lot of stress, our bodies will try and tell us to slow down. If we don’t listen, we can experience anxiety. Anxiety can also be caused by other things, but it sounds like you have a lot going on at school. In addition to the techniques listed in the other posts, I like belly breathing. “Smell the roses and blowout the candles.” Breath through your nose (smell the roses) and make your belly rise with each inhale. Then purse your lips and blow out through your lips. You do this 5 or 6 times, your body will calm down, including your heart rate. Watch your caffeine intake and get 7-8 hours of sleep each day. You’ll be feeling like your old self soon. If not, I would use one of the listening circles or find a therapist. I know therapy has really helped me! Take care! 🤗
