Roommate/landlady won't let us have a dish drying rack
Hey all,
Maybe this seems like a petty issue lol but it's causing me a lot of stress. My landlady/ roommate who lives with us has said she does not feel comfortable having a dish drying rack. Has anyone ever heard of this?? It seems crazy to me. I understand wanting to wash dishes and remove from the rack regularly, but if we can't have one at all...where am I supposed to dry things?? It seems like she and her husband just put everything in the dishwasher, but I've read that certain things aren't supposed to go in the dishwasher and can get damaged. Plus it only gets run when it's full which is like every 3 days or so, what if I need to quickly wash my mug and re-use it or something? For now, I got a plastic bin to dry things in my room, but I live on the top floor and this all feels wildly inconvenient for everyone.
She seems to feel it's her house so she makes the decisions. Maybe I should try again at some point to express that I understand her concerns but I genuinely don't understand where I'm supposed to dry things and I feel frustrated because it feels very inconvenient and weird to have to dry dishes in my room.
I agree that is odd and i have many items that although they claim dishwasher safe they were not ...
various things can be damaged and you are correct that often people need an item now not in 3 days....
i can see how she may have issues one is some people simply think nothing should be air dried they talk of germs settling etc or people who have experienced it becoming a catch all and messy...... both of those are deep rooted ideas that are very hard to change.....
i feel for you as roommates and also landlord situations end up with a few of these differences occuring
@toughTiger6481 Yeah thank you. I have an exam tomorrow, but I am considering sending her a message asking to talk in person or on the phone at some point. I am feeling anxious about that though and don't know if I am waiting too long after the incident and if I should just let it go for now... I'm worried she will still be defensive and might not change her mind, but feel like maybe I would feel better if I can just open up about how much stress this is causing me.
@Daydreamer47
good idea i find most of my stress is imagining what the other person is thinking and doing so much better once i talk with someone many times they see your side and all is fine after that
