Severe Generalized Anxiety and Pregnancy

I found out a few weeks ago that my husband and I are finally having a baby after trying for 2 years now. However, despite my happiness and joy about it, lately my severe generalized anxiety disorder kicks in about different little things; like “how will my family respond?” “will I be a good mother?” “Will the child be healthy?” And so forth. My husband catches me in these moments and tells me that I need to learn to relax myself more and see more of the good in the pregnancy than the bad outside things beyond my control. I don’t know how to start to relax and I don’t what my anxiety to cause harm to my unborn child. Is there anything I can do to stop myself from over-worrying and getting my mind stuck into my anxieties? I want to be able to enjoy my pregnancy.

Hi Rose, I can understand your concern, as you were trying for baby for 2 years feeling little anxious about it is normal. But I'm glad to hear the news about your pregnancy, congratulations.
I think one of the thing which can work for you is trying to divert your mind away in things you like. You need not be even thinking about pregnancy all the time. Just follow important guidelines suggested by your doctor, take good nutrition and rest of the time just keep yourself engaged in things you like. Also you can work on some mindfulness excercises, they can help you calm down a bit and can help you to control overthinking. There are some exercises you can find on 7cups (https://www.7cups.com/exercises/mindfulness/?showlist=1).
Also you can go through the self help guide on anxiety available on 7cups (https://www.7cups.com/anxiety-help/), this can also help you to analyse your automatic thoughts.
Doing some light exercises or taking a short walk everyday can also help you to feel better.
Take care
