Stuck At Life's Crossroads
First time I've posted anything on here.
So I've been diagnosed with ADHD/Anxiety-Depression/PTSD for a wile now. And the more tuned in to it I am, the worse the symptoms have become. Its really been effecting my work performance and also into my own personal life.
I currently work as a Home Care Provider and truthfully, with all that I'm dealing with mentally (even wile being medicated) it's not a good fit. If I struggle taking care of myself then how am I able to focus on the needs of other people. To often I want to throw in the towel and call it quits. The ONLY thing that is preventing me from leaving is because of my medical insurance. If I can find another job I can transfer out too, I'd have to wait an additional 6 months for their insurance to kick in. Not only that, but the idea of starting a brand new job with my mental health in the state that it's at is extremely daunting. If it was a perfect world I'd just not work at all and spend all the free time getting myself right in the head before starting something brand new. But its not, and bills can't pay themselves unfortunately.
I really want to start therapy...but trying to find the right therapist is overwhelming all in itself. Trying to find one who is taking new clients, who takes my insurance, who's schedule matches my work schedule, who specializes to my needs and who is in budget. Then its trying to see whether or not they will be a good fit personality wise or not.
So yeah. I feel like I'm stuck in a rock and a hard place. I want to just walk away from this job that seems to be causing me more harm then good...but at the same time I cant because of all the medical expenses I have to have covered but I wouldn't be pay it all out of pocket. Oh...and the rest of the bills that have to be paid of coarse.
Just not sure what to do.
@kristenr1986
so sorry you are struggling mentally. we have therapists on the site
I was in a very similar situation to you. Ultimately I decided that getting out of the job immediately and salvaging my mental health was worth the risk of insecurity. I figured I could take a random lower stress job temporarily to pay bills until I figured out what I wanted to do, but it turned out that my mental health began improving without the job stressor and I was able to think more clearly and seek out a good job option quickly. Also if you're in America--I was able to get health insurance for $15 a month on the marketplace when I quit, with low co-pays on medications and doctor visits. Anyway I can't tell you what decision to make but just hope maybe you won't feel so trapped--it's just that the options involve a feeling of risk and insecurity but it can still work out. I just know for me it wasn't worth destroying my mental health any further.
