When Happiness Feels Scary

This month has been unexpectedly emotional for me. I met someone I genuinely like and feel safe and comfortable with, and things have progressed more seriously than I expected. I’m genuinely grateful for everything happening, and I’m not complaining at all, but I’m also dealing with my mental health and find myself getting anxious and overthinking wondering why someone would choose me and whether I can trust something good without expecting it to go wrong. I know a lot of this comes from my past traumas, and I’m trying to understand and work through these feelings rather than letting them affect something that is making me genuinely happy.

I am glad that things are going so well for you; you deserve some happiness. Just go with it and enjoy it for whatever it has to bring you.

Your trauma only gets to interfere with your present and future if you let it. I know you have it in you to stay strong and positive. You've got this.

hey, glad you have a grounded mind on working through it. I once had that feeling too with someone, she made me feel safe and comfortable. I do want to remind you something, accept their kindness. Don't let your anxiety think of it another way. A kindness from pity doesn't mean they look down on you, it means they realizes you're in trouble, and they want you to stand back up

It sounds like this has been a really emotional time for you, especially having something good happen while also having those anxious thoughts come up. I can see why it might feel hard to fully trust something good when your past has taught you to expect things to go wrong. It’s really nice to hear that you’re giving yourself the space to understand those feelings instead of letting them take away from something that makes you happy. What has been helping you feel a little more comfortable with trusting this relationship?

I know what you mean. It can be scary. Back when I was in my last relationship I was so happy for a time. After all my past struggles I finally felt wanted but I was terrified that things were too good to be true. You should allow yourself happiness. Sometimes love comes with no expectations and you deserve to accept it

@versatilePear5431 Hey! When you’ve been through past trauma, accepting a good thing can feel terrifying because your brain is waiting for the other shoe to drop. Please remind yourself that you are worthy of this peace and safety. I'm so incredibly happy for you and so proud of you for working through the heavy stuff to let the good stuff in. Rooting for you always!🫂🫶🏻

When you've been through something hard, it's sometimes normal to think we don't deserve the good things that happen to us or not have the self-esteem to feel deserving. You are deserving, you deserve to be well, accompanied, and at peace. I hope you can enjoy that while you continue healing
