When anxiety prevents you from doing simple things
I've had a recent bout of anxiety due to some family circumstances, and I'm working hard to slowly alleviate things and get back into a more normal routine. But this latest bout of anxiety has really been weird. I have had some things on my To Do list for a while. They aren't hard. Two phone calls and one email. I needed to change some household services and I have to set up a meeting. Pretty basic.
This morning I finally told myself - you've GOT TO DO THEM. If I do nothing else today, I must do these three things. I don't know why I was having so much anxiety about making the calls. These calls have absolutely nothing to do with the family circumstances issue, nor does setting up the meeting. But for some reason I just felt seized with fear to get these simple things done.
I just finished my two calls. They were easy. Not even ten minutes of time. But I was completely nervous to initiate them. Now I feel fine. (Well, as fine as can be, I suppose.)
All I have to do is set up this meeting via email. And I'm telling myself what time I will do it so it gets taken care of before the evening.
I guess I'm just struggling with organizing. I'm usually extremely organized, and the stress and anxiety I'm feeling because I don't have control on some things is making me freeze up and panic.
So, maybe it's all about the fact that I don't have as much control as I thought I did, or that I once had, or that I really know I can't ultimately control anyone else, and I'm finding that a bit hard.
Anyway...rambling, but wanted to throw that out to the universe.
@thoughtfulmomma I'm sorry that your anxiety has gotten so overwhelming for you. How have you been since you posted this in October?
I struggle with anxiety too and sometimes mine fluctuates to levels as high as your were. I have long stretches of time where I feel like I can't accomplish anything. It's during those moments that we need to celebrate what we can accomplish even if they feel relatively small. So congrats on making those two calls. Don't think of it as only making two calls, think of it as facing and conquering your anxiety twice in one day. That's amazing!
