struggling at school

I am a freshman in college and this is my second semester on campus. I feel so alone here sometimes for several reasons. For one, I don't have a roommate. I didn't find someone on the online portal so I was randomly assigned one, but they ended up not going to my school so I don't have a roommate. I like having the space to myself, but it also gets really lonely by myself, especially when I don't really have other people to talk to. So far I have only made one friend on campus, but she has her own roommates and other friends and that she also spends time with, so I don't get to see her everyday. I feel so alone because I spend all of my time cooped up in my dorm room not having anyone to talk to. And I also struggle to go out to the dining hall everyday, which isn't very good because I know I need to eat, but it's so difficult to work up the nerve to go out there, and the simplest tasks seem impossible because of my anxiety. If I had a roommate then maybe I could go out to eat with them, but I am by myself. I don't even know how to go about making other friends. I don't even really know how I made the one. I just feel like I'm going to be lonely here for the rest of the years I am at school and it makes me sad. My friend says that her roommates are by association my friends, but I only ever met them once or twice. I could go on and on, but I'm not going to right now, so here's this.

I’m so sorry that you are going through this, try to join dorm building activities or student groups on campus. Also study groups for your classes can help you meet people and also help with your classes.

hey! i’m sorry you’re going through this, i had a similar struggle in my first year, if it helps to know you’re not the only one! idk how universities where you live work, but if there are clubs you could join to meet people, that might be a good idea! or if there is a wellbeing service there, contacting them to tell them what’s going on might be helpful as well? also it’s great that you have a friend!! ik how hard it is to make friends, so focus on the fact that you have that friend and know that you can and will make more! a lot of people have different friends in their 4th year than their 1st year, so you’re not gonna b lonely for the rest of your experience even if it feels that way, anyway i hope this is helpful in some way, even if it’s just the knowledge that you’re not alone in this <3
