A college kid with social anxiety and panic attacks
I've been shunned by my classmates at high school and my parents... well, they're not the most understanding people. And my dad is insanely short-tempered. Honestly, living with him can feel like living on a time-bomb. It feels like... I've been getting myself acquainted to detecting and sensing and predicting any symptoms of him setting off the fuse...
And live is high school SUCKED. Sometimes my ex-classmates would purposely trigger my anxiety by doing stuff that sets me off-- sneezing really loudly, banging the table, etc. So I kinda learn to predict these instances... in a way, I thought like, if I came up prepared, I wouldn't be triggered as badly... and that just makes it worse. I'd be anxious every. Single. Moment. Don't know WTH I'd have done if I were seated on the front row.
Now I'm in college.. I'm still not on talking terms with my dad. I still get anxious whenever I sense unfamiliar eyes on me. And I think, most critically, I get these headaches whenever I'm stressed out... which makes me even more anxious. I'd think things like, 'what's happening to me?? Am i getting enough oxygen? Do i just forget to breathe whenever i get anxious? Oh gosh, it isn't getting any easier... and now i'm feeling light-headed.. it feels like my head is gonna explode!!!'
Having social anxiety really sucks if you're a student or if you're working. How do you work through it? (You are one brave soul!)
You know whenever we pass certain stages of our life, our thinking too changes, we are always getting better in ways we can't imagine.You know there were times when I would listen to the people around me telling me how bad I was at listening, and how much time I will take to respond. I know comments are bad when you have anxiety because you rehearse a lot. What I did , I found out new thoughts that would replace what I have and I used to read them when no one else is around, and today even though I have oxygenless times, I have come around to meet so many peoples and I was able to connect with them emotionally. It's just persistence and practice and nothing else, you don't need to use a lot of brain for this. And process matters a lot for social anxiety, because it's how you build up your thoughts in good and bad ways.
@magnificentEars25 Yes I am a student.
@magnificentEars25 So it's consistent practice of self-affirmation. And practice practice practice. I'll have to imprint that in me.
It's amazing how far you've come through by the way. Ayee, we'll get through this.
@Gretathephoenix That's what helped me out. I used to have a 1 hour self talk daily. I used to go to hill and where there will be no one else around, and I will be doing all things like self talk , or I do a public speech or listen to song and sing along with it,you know I love that part. I will get so much relieved when I don't have thoughts running in my on mind. I was so much motivated about what I can I do after getting over it.
