Anxiety + Allergies = Uncontrollable Crying
I have a big problem in that I don't take criticism well, especially when it comes to performance. I take it so badly that I will cry in front of bosses, adding more shame on top of the shame I'm already feeling. However, I've managed to keep myself from getting upset during stressful situations NOT involving performance, but I embarrassingly burst into tears anyway over basically nothing. It makes everyone I meet act guarded around me, which is really awkward. I don't want people to feel uncomfortable around me.
I also have genuine allergies that certainly aren't helping the situation. Seriously, any tension in my face makes my eyes turn red and water. Unfortunately, my allergies are immune to any form of treatment.
Anyway, I'm really trying to stop being so sensitive, but I can't help but take it personally every time. I also need help figuring out something to tell people so they treating me so gingerly. So far all I've come up with is "I'm just an overly-sensitive person with allergies", but I'm not sure how to believably justify being on the verge of tears. I feel that others in general should not be concerned about my emotional problems, so I don't want to go any deeper than "overly-sensitive".
Hey @FrostFeather ...
That must be rather overwhelming being overly sensitive ♡ and I'm glad that you're looking for ways to cope. You're also very thoughtful to want to avoid making others feel uncomfortable
What do you feel are the upper side of having that personality trait? And have you ever checked if it is fit into HSP? Take care always *sending friendly hug* ♡
I think an upside is that it makes me consider others' wellbeing when others would just step over them. Many people subconciously show me gratitude because of it. I have a classmate who also has social anxiety, and she's a relief to deal with because she's one of the few people who genuinely wants to be nice, not just as a plesantry.
