Connecting with other shy/socially anxious people

Hi,

I would love to have more friends with SA. I have too many bad experiences with outgoing extroverts who have excluded/bullied me and can be patronizing/don't understand the SA. I feel I deserve friends who understand and truly value me without some kind of prejudice. I unfriended a girl from college today who sort of treated me as a pity friend (she would ditch me for more popular people). I actually do feel empowered doing that and finally allowing myself to see I deserve better than that.

I am looking into nerdy/geeky meetup groups or bookclubs or maybe like philosophy club would be good. If you have had similar experiences or have any advice about how to connect with other shy/quiet/socially awkward people let me know.

Love,
Day

@Daydreamer47 Hey there! First, I would like you to be proud of yourself for having the strength and confidence to establish relationships and initiate making friends who will treat you as true friend and respect you for who you are. I think that it is a really good idea to join clubs. I think they will be glad to have you. Blogging or joining forums is a way to connect but people can be very hostile. It depends on the site though. You may also want to sign up for workshops for any hobbies or things that might interest you, such as crafts, etc. smiley

@Daydreamer47 I am very proud of you for stepping out and wanting to make friends who will understand you and value you for who you are :). You sound like a wonderful person with a good head on their shoulders. It is good that you see you deserve greatness! I suffer from SA as well and it can be very challenging to find people who understand or do not judge.

@Daydreamer47

I went to medical school where there were plenty of other geeks. lol

Seriously though joining a club based around your interests is a great idea. Regardless of personalities if people have a strong interest in common it is much easier to establish a connection.
