Feeling out of place in the social norm

So recently, I decided to go back to college to finish my BA degree. The last time I was in college was 5 years ago when I was fresh out of high school, and I just kept switching majors every year and GPA was like a 2.9 and only managed to get a AA in humanities and natural sciences and didn't do too well in my courses, had a lot of retakes, C,B, F's etc. But this time I want to study hard and ace all my classes working towards the passion I have for gardening/Horticulture.

After working for over 4 years or so in the working class, I decided to go back to college at the age of 25 to get my BA degree and this time it's because I want to follow my passion for gardening or rather the horticulture/plant science field. Since it's been my passion for over 3 years and I've been doing organic gardening  for almost 4 years in my backyard and I have done freelancing gardening services in the past and just decided last month, I want to pursue this from a passion/hobby into an actual profession.

I know I shouldn't worry about this, I'm there to study, but I still have a insecurity because I'm a non traditional student going back to college at 25 and pursuing my first BA degree a lot of people will look down on me or just getting canceled for existing because I'm older than the usual students at college who are usually 17-21.  I think the most anxious part is a lot of my classes have labs so the thought like even I know my stuff well for the class, but because I may have younger peeps in my lab projects, will I end up getting looked down like interaction alone of just trying to finish a lab project or smt with them.

Also fyi in case anyone asks, I'm solely going there for just my education, I dont plan to make close friends there since I have my own group of friends already that are around my range, and if I wanted friends at the college Im attending, I'd probably say the bare minimum is at least 23-24 for me, otherwise will probably just distance if any classmates try to befriend beyond campus grounds, like hangout outside the school.

Hi! @rinniechan

I dont think anyone is going to look down on you. I can't say how other people feel but there are much older people than you in my law class and I really admire them for taking the step to educate themselves in something they're are passionate about.

@rinniechanIt’s inspiring that you’re going back to college to follow your passion for horticulture! Being a non-traditional student is more common than you might think, and many people appreciate the focus and experience you bring. It’s natural to feel anxious about working with younger classmates, but your knowledge and dedication will shine through. Remember, you don’t have to be close friends with everyone—just focusing on your education and collaborating respectfully is enough. You’re taking a brave step toward what you love, and that’s what truly matters. Would you like some tips on managing anxiety in group labs or making the most of your college experience?
