In high school, I was always really outgoing. i even would have considered myself a class clown, always joking with people and my teachers. I partied a lot and made a lot of acquaintances. fast forward to my second year of college (3 years ago) up until now, i am sooooooo awkward or quiet in social situations. almost everyone makes me nervous, i’d get shaky and sweaty about an encounter days before. wth happened to me? i get so down on myself about it and my confidence has plummeted, i feel no one will ever take me seriously and i’m about to graduate college and find a career. i need help

It seems that you have lost your confidence in a sense but do not fret! As crazy as it may seem, confidence is not everything. If you show that you’re giving effort into wanting to talk to people, it’s extremely likely that they are noticing your efforts! I recommend getting in touch with these high school friends if possible and see if you’re still comfortable around them. But if that’s not possible, practice with those closest to you! Explain to people that you are a nervous and that you might be a little shy or introverted, there is no shame in that personality trait.

Hi. Firstly, I just want to say I relate to some extent. Uhh a few years ago I was a very outgoing person but someway somehow I underwent this sudden shift and I became a very quiet reserved constantly anxious who being whose awkward in social situations. Here and there, it scares me that due to that shift in my behaviour I probably won't be able to lead or take charge when its needed particularly when it comes to work where employers are looking for that confidence. So yeah I relate. I don't know what exactly happened to us, why the change? I don't know, but I know you shouldn't feel so down about it. It's who you are now and while it might seem like a disadvantage this new personality of yours probably has allowed you to view the world in a different way. It certainly has given me a different perspective that has in a way made me more mature I guess. I don't know if that's the case for you... but just try look at the positives it ain't all bad I also recommend you talk to a psychologist as there might be a psychological reason for the change and they probably will be better at giving guidance on how to deal this. Or even talk to a guidance counsellor and discuss your fears with regards to the job market. Overall, you will be okay. People will take you seriously and just remember the most confident room is not the one who speaks the most or the loudest. If that makes sense... But yeah you will be okay, do reach out to a listener if you have any more worries.

@samang17
It sounds that you have a very different experience in your high school and university life. It may be something that happens in this stage change that influences your confidence level.

Here is my story. I did public speeches, hosting 500 people's live events are my daily life while I am in my original country. But I decided to immigrate to a new country. A new environment and culture do crash my confidence. Especially using the language which I am not that fluency to communicate is a nightmare to me. In the beginning, I only avoid talking in the crowd. Then the situation gets worse, I experience hard times that I even scared to talk to small groups. I start practice talking with one person, and then two, and then three. Just a small step each time until I feel comfortable with that size of the group. Now I can work with a group of 10 people comfortably. I am still learning and try to extend my capacity. Wish this story helps. Good day, my friend.
