Why do I dislike people so much?

The more anxious I get the less I can tolerate people. Although I know I need to develop a social network, but the vicious circle starts again. Just when I need people, I can't stand them.

I dunno. I feel the same way and I'm described as very personable. I see thru people and just sometimes give them what they want to hear, sometimes even for my entertainment value. I think I've lost a lot of faith in basic humanity. In general, people suck. That sounds rude and arrogant to say doesn't it? In my lifetime so far I've given a lot without expecting anything in return. Perhaps I'm just sick of giving. I'm finally depleted. And people generally represent "takers" for me, not givers. It's a lonely world most of the time.

@easyWater4109 Sounds like you're around a lot of toxic people. I used to feel that way back when I had some toxic "best friends." Then it got to a point they threatened to hurt my friend so I cut contact with them which made room to develop better relationships with friends who are good for me. There are givers in the world though they can be hard to find. Seeing right through people is a gift. It means you don't have to waste time on douches and you can move on until you find other givers. When givers meet other givers they hold each other close. Everyone wants mutual respect and those who choose to give it tend to have higher standards for receiving it too and they'd love to be around someone like you. I try to meet people at events where people only go if they actually wanna be there, not where there's a lotta publicity or most people are just there for $. There's a balance. If I really wanna do something I do it regardless of who's there but especially in my personal life I spend a good amount of time looking for genuine kind people. It's worth it. They help me grow as a person. I used to entertain myself with the world of douchery too. My mind would get stuck in some hilarious yet destructive places. Those thoughts would take over my potential for constructive creativity. Now I recognize those thoughts as counterproductive and I know not to focus on them. I don't remember who said "Inspiration and bathing don't last forever. That's why we recommend it daily." Don't lose faith in humanity because of a subset of people you know. Find new people to be around.

I don't like people, but I think it is a defense mechanism. I see the worst in people and therefore I don't trust anyone. I mainly think people are not genuine or they are just ignorant. And when I do connect with someone, I feel unwanted in returned causing me to push most people away

@michelle91 Many people are fake because they're scared too. It's not your responsibility to sacrifice your well-being or happiness putting yourself in unhealthy situations to help them but just know they're not all evil. Most are just hurt or scared. It's a skill to know who to keep close and who to push away. Getting close to people takes steps and sometimes you realize someone isn't who you think and it's ok to push them away long as you don't push everyone away.

I like people. I try and see the good in everyone. I fall for people easily and yet somewhere deep inside i don't trust anyone. Just as soon as you think you know me, you've missed several layers I've built up. In my head i expect the worse and assume people will do the worst to me. It's complicated my head trusts and my heart doesn't.

@Elinxs27 Well said. I can relate on so many levels. I try to see the good in everyone too. There's good in everyone. Some are harnessing it better than others. At the same time a lot of people are too caught up in their own damaged thoughts to treat others right. I'm not saying everyone with damaged thinking hurts people and I know my thinking is far from perfect. Just saying some do. I have a hard time trusting anyone on a deep level too and a lot of times my needs aren't met and it gets to a point I blab to the 1st person who'll listen which isn't always smart but actually often goes better than expected. Probably because since I'm a good, helpful person but I'm also developing standards for not letting people push me around, I attract other good people.

Do you really dislike them or is it your anxiety that makes it difficult for you to deal with people, @diligentOrange3226?

I completely relate. Although I'm described as very social and personable, all-in-all, I just don't like social interaction that much. Don't get me wrong, I still like talking to people occassionally, but in the end, I really just prefer to be alone. It isn't bad, though.:)

I find that the more I close myself off the more SA I have. It gets better the more time I spend with people as long as they're positive constructive people. When you talk about needing people do you mean personally or just for some other goal eg networking? Those things can be related but a lot of people see it different ways and I'm curious how you view human interaction. Like do you want more but you're unhappy with the kind you've found so far or do you see it as a necessarry evil haha
