social anxiety at work
hi, im rosie im new to 7 cups. recently, I started a new waitressing job. ive had social anxiety pretty bad since I was a kid, but I thought maybe this would help me break the ice and gain some confidence. however, so far its done the opposite, im constantly dreading going there are when I do, im so nervous around the customers and once of twice they even started laughing when I walked away. this one lady was really rude to me, and the second my shift ended I couldn't stop crying, and I could barely sleep because I kept on running through. the conversation in my head and it was the first thing I thought of in the morning. im meant to go. back there. tonight and I feel sick. I feel like everyone is watching me and judging me and I get the worst tension headaches when I think about it. I feel like the other kids my age that work there hate me and think im awkward. I feel like im a burden and get in the way, and I really don't need this at the moment as im going through a lot at school and recently lost a close family member. please if anyone has any advice or anything please help.
sounds tough. i've been there. can you ask a supervisor for some advice on the best way to do the job and/or deliver customer service? in the meantime, just do your best and have confidence that that's what you're doing - your best!
Hello Rosie am new to 7 cups too. I can relate with you on the anxiety.. Sometimes you feel like you can't do it right and everyone is there waiting for an show you how you did to wrong. Just that they will never understand what your going through. How did you face the situation today.
If you can I recommend getting a retail job where stock shelves . I did soft lines at target and it was less draing socially in my opinion , you talk to customers but not quite as much. I wish you luck !
Hey, I don't have any advice but just wanted to offer my support. I struggled a lot with social anxiety as a teenager and it made my first job pretty miserable. I also had some coworkers who were pretty mean, which further damaged my self-confidence. Just out of curiosity, what are some of your values and things you are passionate about? Sometimes holding onto your values and listening to your gut or "inner voice" can help a lot when you feel socially anxious. Anyways, I'm sending positive vibes and I hope things start to improve for you soon.
You may have jumped too big of a step. Maybe you can get a less social job for now and work your way up?

I think that what you are doing is very brave. Those people, they will come and go. If you went to a restaurant/cafe, would you really think much about the waiter/ess?
It is difficult to believe that, I know, but it is true. so take it easy on yourself, what you are feeling is valid, and you can take it one step at a time.
I dunno if this would help, but I'll tell you about my experience
It was like six years ago when I started college. I had all these thoughts on how bad I looked like and how everyone would laugh at me and judge me.
Well, one day I was walking to the cafeteria with all these thoughts racing in my head and I raised my head -as I used to look down when I walked- and I happened to see my reflection on a glass wall. I was very surprised to see that I was...normal.
Of course, it took a longer while to work on these thoughts so I used to check my look in the mirror a few times just to reassure myself of that, just to check that it was ok, and I would ask my family and friends about it too.
The second issue started after I got to know a few people and we asked eachother about the first impressions we had of each other. many said that they thought that I was very quiet. What surprised me more was that one of them thought that I was arrogant. so...I also asked the question of first impressions a lot until I got more reassured about it.
Everyone's experience is different. I hope that what I shared would be helpful, it's ok if it wasn't.
@Shonnn
I also read a lot on anxiety and what it loooks like and why it happens etc...
It helped too.
