i have social anxiety to the extent of meeting people in person. when i can hide behind social media, or a text message, i can be myself and it doesn't bother me. but when i meet people in person i completely shut down. im nothing like the real me. i completely lose my train of thought and how to act. it's extremely embarrassing and only makes me feel worse. does anyone have any tips on how to get over that?

I always take deep breaths, if your humorous you can use that to your advantage. Laughter is always a nice to have rather than silence. A quick path I like to take it with compliments, nothing to shallow maybe about how nice their hair looks today or the outfit they put together :) people from there can usually relax as everyone is always so tense when meeting other people so not to worry, your not alone :D I hope I helped a bit as I also struggle with meeting people I tend to struggle with forming and actual sentence or slip up an a lot of words, so if an one could gives tips that be great!

Have you tried searching for a support group for social anxiety near you?

I feel ya. I'm so smooth online & texting coz I need time to think of the perfect thing to say & irl I can barely get anything out. I find it's easier to go to events where you do something & it's not just all talking or you listen to someone else talk haha. Sometimes groups can be helpful because you don't need to respond to everything people say, just when you feel like it because other people will.

It also helps if you keep in touch with the people you meet up with via text or social media so you'll have somewhere to pick up from.

i like to hang out with people in the context where we are working on something together on something such as knitting or cooking. I can just sit there for a while helping chop carrots or something, and I start to feel more comfortable because I don't feel obligated to talk. I also have a fear of looking at people too, so I can look at the carrots while talking to them lol.
