Feelings of hatred

Hi,

I’m diagnosed with Bipolar 1 with psychosis. My husband has stood by my side through the diagnosis and the roller coaster we have been on for the past 6 mos. My issue is that even though my husband is great, when I’m depressed I hate him. How do I cope with this feeling that I know isn’t real when it feels so real? How do I stop myself from destroying my relationship just because I’m depressed. I can feel myself pushing him away, and I can see that it is running a toll on him too. I just want us to be happy!

@DWGWFG

Hello,

I'm very sorry to hear that your diagnosis may be getting in the way of your relationship with your husband.

I had a friend with a similar experience.

She said, in her experience it helped them to keep open communication.

Such as letting her partner know when she felt a mood shift coming.

I appreciate you coming to the community for support<3

I wish the best for you two.💛✨

@DWGWFG hi, thank you for sharing!

I'm sorry to hear you have to experience such things. Those emotions that you feel, the hate, it's really hard to handle. I suffer from Bpd so sometimes when I caught myself splitting, I also have thoughts and feelings like yours towards my fiancee.

What I think it helps is healthy communication between me and her: telling her my boundaries, telling her that sometimes I need space and share with her some thoughts that I have so she can understand me better.

Do you think that would be possible for you?

Lots of love.💜

I do think that’s possible, and thank you both for sharing. Do you ever want them with you while pushing them away at the same time? I don’t know if it’s that I feel guilt that he has to live through this with me or something else. I just hate feeling this way :(

Hi there im really sorry you're going through this and no one deserves to live with a mental illness. It can makes things really hard and it's difficult to cope but I'm sure you're husband loves you very much and hes a good husband for staying by your side and helping you.my advice would be just explain to him your thoughts and feelings and what you're going so he could be more understanding. Let him know that you dont truly hate him it's just your depression talking. Let him know that you love him as well and dont mean to push him away .I hope things get better for both of you 💜
