I think I have bipolar but I haven’t been diagnosed

I think that I have bipolar disorder. I have mood swings and these episodes 2-3 times a day. I’m not on any medication for depression or anxiety right now but I was taking it and stopped because it was making me nauseous and making me throw up. It seems like these episodes happen more often when I’m not on the medicine but it’s not used to treat bipolar but I don’t know for sure if I have bipolar or not. When I have these episodes I feel this intense feeling of anger and then I start screaming and shouting sometimes I do it because something triggered me and sometimes I don’t even know why I do it. After the anger and screaming I start to cry very hard but I don’t always cry. Sometimes I’ll cry for hours after my anger or sometimes I won’t cry and the anger will stop eventually. I take a lot of my anger out on my boyfriend and I really don’t want to do that because I love him very much and I know he is tired of dealing with my explosions. Sometimes when I’m hungry and don’t know it i will get angry and when I start eating I calm down. When I’m having these episodes I tend to pull my hair out, say I want to d13 without actually wanting to do it. I just say it in the moment. I want to stop feeling like this any tips ?

This sounds like things I have. I have diagnosed OCD and ADD and am chemically all over the place. I would suggest talking to a doctor about medications to fix chemical imbalances. If you are always angry then I would suggest doing more things you enjoy and things that make you upset, try to limit them. I know it sounds like no **** but if you sit down write a list it will help to slowly get rid of the things that make you mad. I need to work on these things as well.

Thank you. The doctors are telling me they don’t think it is bipolar. Because I never get energetic it’s just anger and screaming and crying I really don’t know what’s going on with me.

First of all, I would say that being scared or anxious about whatever is happening with you will definitely not help. If you can, be good to yourself and understand that there may be a reason that you will come to understand as you work towards healing. If anger is what worries you the most, check anger management skills online. I know that there is much you can do through behavioral interventions

@Blackmoon678, thank you for sharing. I think that the best way to know whether your symptoms are in fact bipolar symptoms is to keep a journal. This will allow you to see whether there are patterns and will be helpful for your psychiatrist to diagnose you. You can check an overview of bipolar here:

https://www.cci.health.wa.gov.au/~/media/CCI/Consumer%20Modules/Keeping%20Your%20Balance/Keeping%20Your%20Balance%20-%2001%20-%20Overview%20of%20Bipolar%20Disorder.pdf

As someone living with bipolar, I can tell you that apart from diagnosis and medication there are many things you can do to manage your mood swings, above all having a healthy routine: good eating, healthy sleeping habits (going to bed at the same time, sleeping for 7-8 hours) and exercise. Hope this helps!

Thank you so much for your advice. Do you think this is bipolar? I don’t have the “highs” of it tho I’m not elated at all like ever. It’s just the anger and screaming and crying uncontrollably and not being able to calm down in the moment. Most of the times I don’t know why I feel the way I do. And I’m never happy anymore I’m always depressed

@Blackmoon678, since I am not a doctor I wouldn't be able to tell you and I advise you to go to the doctor. Every person is different and you need someone to see you. Having said this, emotional regulation tools can help you manage your moods in the meantime too. Hope that's helpful.

What you described sounds like borderline personality disorder (BPD). I know because I have it plus bipolar. I’m doubting that it is bipolar because you are describing the symptoms of BPD, not bipolar which is the high of mania followed by the low of depression. You say that you take a lot out on your boyfriend. There’s a book about BPD called “I Hate You, Don’t Leave Me” and, almost always, loved ones get the brunt of it. I’m not a doctor but I recognize the pattern from what happens with me. From these 9 criteria, only 5 need to be present to be diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. 1. Frantic efforts to avoid real or imagined abandonment. 2. Unstable and intense interpersonal relationships. 3. Lack of clear sense of identity. 4. Impulsiveness in potentially self-damaging behavior. 5. Recurrent suicidal threats or gestures, or self-mutating behavior. 6. Severe mood shifts and extreme reactivity to situational stresses. 7. Chronic feelings of emptiness. 8. Frequent and inappropriate displays of anger. 9. Transient, stress-related feelings of unreality or paranoia. Me, I have 8 out of the 9. You may have less. Less than 5 means that I am wrong. Hoping that this helps.
