Looking for support and a friend
Hello I'm May.. I am diagnosed with bipolar mixed features.. I've been through a lot lately.. I am looking for a friend who experienced depression too..
@May0234 Hi May. I have also been diagnosed with bipolar disorder for almost two years.
Hello.. I appreciate you for reaching out.. how have you been?
@May0234 I am trying to prevent this disease from affecting my life any more. I take six medications that seem to work. There are no other treatments for me right now.
I'm glad that your medications seems to work. I take two medications everyday but there were times I missed my dose. A trigger will really affect me even if I take medications...
@May0234 Same for me, like today i walked 45 minutes but other days i am too lazy to get out of bed.
It is hard to be consistent right?.. and also I'm trying to avoid my triggers now..but mostly they can't be avoidable
How do you manage your depressive symptoms?
@May0234 This is a question I ask other depressed people. But personally, I try to hide my depression by having more fun and interacting with people and family, although it's hard. Things that make others laugh, do not make me laugh. I have come to terms with my depression now, it has become a part of my life. What i can do? other than meds, hobbies, hanging out?
I am mostly alone.. and I used to draw, read and take a walk then.. now is so much different.. I was excluded from a friend group and that thing hurts me.... and I don't want to trust people that much anymore.. I still go to therapy by my psychiatrist.. my treatment was set every other month...
@May0234 I visit my psychiatrist every two month to renew my medication. I'm alone too, have no friend. I got used to solitude, I walk, read, watch movies, sky observation, family-gathering, etc
That is great to hear.. I wish I will get used of being alone too.. I have toxic extended family tho.. my parents are not that open with mental health issues... I am still a college student.. and find difficulty to concentrate and I am bothered by seeing friend groups
I am mostly depressed tho..
@May0234 I dropped out uni. I have social anxiety disorder. You are better than me in this, I remember that I used to go to uni, but I didn't go to class. Everything was against me. It was exhausting. And after a few semesters, I was called a "withdrawal student". Now I am thirty-two years old, I regret why I did not go to a psychiatrist sooner.
I'm so sorry to hear that... in fact I 'm still on uni but I struggled a lot.. My grades and performance were affected and I'm suicidal... I feel you in that way I don't go to class and do some schoolworks anymore.. rn I'm in internship which is the greatest stress of mine and I still have one subject to attend.. it is really exhausting and tiring and I have to deal with this alone.... cause I don't have friends in uni... finding friends is very difficult...
@May0234 I don't think suicide is a solution. You have to endure hardships, as others endure. Pay more attention to your surroundings, maybe you could find a friend. I missed out on a lot of friendships just because I didn't keep the conversation going and I didn't want to get close to anyone. But don't make this mistake, if you don't have friends at university, you can find friends elsewhere. The world is bigger than the university.
I have a friend but she goes to a differenr university... I was hurt in the fact that I was excluded from a friend group just because I can't keep up with their activities.. It triggers me a lot...
@May0234 I hope you find another friend group. Don't worry too much. One of the pleasures of life is the unknown future for us.
You are strong and I appreciate that you share your experiences with me
@May0234 Thank you May. Feel free to ask me anything, we share same things.
How do you cope up with everyday? Especially on things that beyond our control?...
@May0234 I try to always be busy with something, it doesn't matter if it's something I like or not. When I get stressed, I go for a walk (Sometimes I walk in my room), read something or watching a movie. I take my medicines regularly. I am lonely like you. My social interactions are limited to a few members of my family. So, I like online chat, right here on 7 Cups i go to Member Community Room. There are days when I can't do anything, my mood gets locked.
I used to journal,draw,take walks then... I don't know.. I can tell that I'm depressed.. because I don't do these things anymore
@May0234 Try new things. Get used to it.
Maybe I will just do things that is needed to do even if I hate it
@May0234 Good idea. Start with something pleasure for you, like taking a shower, then do something you stopped doing it, or try doing something new for you. This is how I act when I don't feel like doing anything.
Idk if I can try it...
@May0234 Hey May, How you doing today?

Hi, i’ve been suffering of depression for 4 years, talk as much as you want with me
@Kiki45 hi I’m sorry to hear this
@May0234
Hi there. Yes i had experience depression and is still experiencing it day to day. The stress i carry like a very heavy luggage is on my shoulders day to day. I struggle trying to focus on my work. I struggle trying to act normal so people won't judge me and look at me oddly. It's not easy cause it's a battle each day to be okay when I know most of the time I am only pretending to be okay.
I don't get much support from the physical people around me cause a lot are not that informative and understanding about mental health.
But I still go on. Fighting my battle with depression. Trying to fight the negative voices in my head. Trying to look at things in a positive way though it' still takes a lot of practice for me. :)
@May0234
For me, depression comes in waves, and it can be hardcore at times. I'm also looking for a friend, though my motive seems to be get a job, and maybe stop forming the relationship with myself that doesn't want to give to people, especially those who have depression. Maybe people can relate with that, dunno. It gives me comfort as well to read stuff in here o/
