I’m scared I’ll never get hired again
i’ve been unemployed for almost a year now and i’m young and have been out of school for 4 years now. i just can’t believe that someone my age is struggling so much with just getting a job. i went to school and i did really well, i know that doesn’t guarantee anything but i did what was told would get me a good job and i am struggling so much. it has really taken a toll on my self esteem and mental health. i’m scared it’s never going to happen and that inferior feeling is just eating me alive. i don’t know what else to do.

I will happen but perhaps not the way you thought it would.
Lots of possible situations come to mind. Not sure what field you are trying to get into but many have had similar situations with schooling and not able to find work that aligned with what they studied as the school often was nothing like the real work situation.
Employers often look for more like experience and other skills and attitudes that shows a candidate will fit into the team or business.

Your feelings are normal and valid. Being unemployed is scary and exhausting.
I'm assuming you're in the U.S., based on your screen name. The job market is bad for a lot of people right now, despite the news we hear about the economy adding jobs. Unfortunately, the job market is likely to get worse based on recent decisions by the Administration. Thousands of government employees have been laid off (and no doubt there will be more), increasing competition for the jobs that are available.
I wish I had good advice, but I don't. All I can say is that I completely empathize and hope that things turn around for you soon.
It is so scary not being able to find a job for the past 4 years. Makes you wonder what your future holds, and the struggles you'll face financially.
Can you find any remote jobs with your schooling? Maybe there are some courses you can upgrade, to help you find more specified fields to work in.

There is nothing to fear, it's not you who is getting anxious at this age. If we are in a certain system and contributing to it, once that system closes for us or for all, we can rest for a few days thinking it's the same as taking a leave but after that we immediately start getting anxious about all the financial loss and etc.
Being in a similar situation, I can tell you a few things which helped me & could help you too:
Leave it to the Universe: Just keep doing whatever you know to be right. Whether it is even applying for jobs. Someday you will come to know something just at the right moment. When we make good use of things we can control and leave to the Universe things we can't control, It really happens just automatically.
Also the time between searching for jobs, follow your dreams, do the stuff that you've always wanted to (We always hear procrastination in our jobs, But we never think about the Procrastinating we do about the Life we want to live).
Study your mind: Atleast 10 minutes a day, make notes or meditate or just stroll & think or all of these. Studying this great machine through which we experience the world makes us control it & do things we didn't even imagine we had the ability to.
Be your best loving parent, teacher & friend: Your situation may be similar to many, but is still unique and different, and you have an important role to go through it, so be loving to yourself and everyone, each is winning and struggling in their own journey, so let us be loving to ourselves and empathetic to everyone else
Blessings
You are wonderful
