8) Headlining and Sub-Headlining Effective Content Pieces

User Profile: SoulfullyAButterfly

Article titles (headlines), as well as subheadlines, are one of the first things a reader reads.

In this discussion, we will understand effective strategies to write headline titles as well as subheadlines to these titles.

Some general tips include:

  • Avoid long article titles: try to fit the title within 62 characters or limit it to 5-7 words.

  • Consider using “What”, “Why”, “How”, or “When” as these are catchy and add to curiosity.

  • Use Numbers - numbers ensure the availability of organized information and are generally liked: using Odd Numbers in the title has helped in terms of SEO. Remember to write the number itself (5 instead of five).

  • To add specificity, consider using “the” before the number.

  • Provide an answer to why people should click and read your content: words like “tips”, “strategies”, “facts”, “reasons” all help provide a rationale.

  • Include the word “Guide” where applicable.

  • Consider using emotional adjectives that describe the topic. For example, “essential”, “free” etc.

  • Consider outlining Negative aspects - spin this to meet mental health content goals. For example, The 5 Essential Things You Did Not Know About Depression.

  • Use common words to ensure people understand and grasp the topic while finding the title simple

  • Consider using a “Things I Wish I Had Known” approach to content if applicable.

How to test your headline as being unique:

Copy and paste your headline with quotation marks into the Google search bar. (e.g. “The 5 Essential Things You Did Not Know About Depression”) - if the results come back as “no results found”, your headline is unique!

Helpful Resource: Useful Title Capitalization Tool

Note: The bottom line to success in terms of marketing and content is to ensure that your content body reflects the great headline/title. It might be worth considering writing final titles after the content body.

Subheadlines: Effective subheadlines summarize the content body while also linking it to the title.

Great work, Stranger! I really like how you kept your title short and to the point. Using numbers is a great (Search Engine Optimization) SEO-friendly choice! “The 4 Fundamental Ways to Improve Body Image” is a solid title because it suggests a clear, structured approach for readers. If you wished to improve this further, you might want to consider making the title a little more engaging by adding power words. For example, something like “The 4 Fundamental Ways to *Transform* Your Body Image” could make it even more compelling and gives the reader a little more opportunity for curiosity and engagement.

Your subheadings are well-organized, and I really like them!

Overall, you’re on the right track! Keep up the fantastic work! :) ✨

Fantastic job with your title, Grace. It’s engaging, powerful, and immediately grabs attention. I love how you’ve structured your subheadings, making them feel informative and intriguing. The use of numbers in “7 Powerful Truths About Sexual Abuse” really works well to draw the reader in.

Could you please link the 7 Cups article you reflected on? Other than that, you’ve nailed it.
Your subheadings are clear, relevant, and flow logically. Each of your subheadings would actually make fantastic separate articles too. Awesome work! Can’t wait to see more from you! 😊👏

Wow, I love how engaging and structured your subheadings are, Blossom! “7 Powerful Ways to Transform Your Body Image and Boost Confidence” is such a great choice, it’s specific, uses numbers, and has strong, action-oriented language. It immediately tells the reader what to expect, which is exactly what a good title should do!

Your subheadings are also very well thought out and flow nicely with the article’s themes. One tiny suggestion is that some of them could be a bit more concise. For example, instead of “Breaking Free from Unrealistic Beauty Standards,” you might try “Escaping Unrealistic Beauty Standards” as it would feel snappier, but this is the smallest of tweaks. I'm finding it hard to give your critique to work on!

Overall, this is fantastic work! You’ve clearly understood the guidelines and applied them well. Keep up the amazing effort. I can tell your writing will really resonate with readers! ✨😊

@Rose1324

I really appreciate the thoughtfulness behind your title, “A Positive Body Image and Its Powerful Effects.” It sets a great tone for your article, Rose! :)

That said, it might benefit from a bit more specificity by perhaps incorporating a number or a power word, like "4 Ways Positive Body Image Can Transform Your Life” or “How Positive Body Image Will Change Your Life.” This would help it stand out even more and gain more engagement!

Your subheadings have a nice, personal touch, which makes the article feel relatable and engaging - LOVE THAT! However, a few could be refined slightly for clarity. For example, instead of “Why is it that body image is so powerful?” you could go with “Why Body Image Matters” for a smoother and more direct approach. “Why is it that body image is so powerful?”, this would be an awesome rhetorical question within the body of your article!

I love how you included positive affirmations in your structure—that’s a really nice touch! Just a little bit of fine-tuning, and this will be even stronger. Keep up the great work!😊

(I've marked both in this one paragraph to save doubling up.)

Beautiful work on both sets of titles and subheadlines! Your first title, “Powerful Ways to Improve Your Body Image and Feel at Home in Your Skin,” is especially strong; it’s warm, vivid, and emotionally inviting. The subheadline pairs perfectly with it, offering clarity and purpose. Your second version is more concise, and while impactful, consider specifying “transform your body image” to keep the mental health focus clear. Overall, your use of empowering language and mindset-focused messaging really shines. Excellent application of the headline principles!💫

Lovely start, Shell! Your title asks a clear, relatable question that invites the reader in. I’d encourage you to consider making it a bit more specific, punchier or emotionally resonant, perhaps adding a word like “thoughtfully” or “gently” to hint at tone. Your subheadings show a caring, body-positive approach, and I especially liked “Love your body like it is”, that’s so heartfelt and memorable! Keep building that connection between your title and the content structure. You’re on the right track! ✨

Level Up Your Island, Level Up Your Mind: 5 Ways Animal Crossing Gamification Supports Your Mental Wellness Journey

In this discussion, we'll explore effective strategies to enhance engagement on mental health support platforms by integrating the charming, progression-based mechanics of Animal Crossing. Consider how using a "What," "Why," "How," or "When" approach can make content catchy and add to curiosity, for example, "How Your Virtual Island Can Boost Real-Life Resilience." Additionally, incorporating numbers, particularly odd ones like "5 Ways," ensures organised information and is generally well-received for readability and SEO purposes. To add specificity and draw readers in, always consider using "the" before the number. This approach allows us to provide a clear answer to why individuals should explore the therapeutic potential of building their own digital haven.
