CDM Talk: Podcast to Improve Your Life This Year
Hey everyone!!!! Welcome to today's CDM Talk
A podcast is a form of content marketing and Mel Robbins is a motivational speaker (among her other roles) that uses this format to share her contents.
I'd like to share takeaways from the episode Brand New Research: 8 Simple & Surprising Changes That Improves Your Life which she compiled from different studies and researches.
Random acts of kindness remembering how profound they are to the receiver.
Less gym time, more results with Eccentric exercises. It is basically a slow, lengthening muscle contraction that is for a specific muscle for example, slowly lowering yourself down to sit into a chair. The slow motion of you going from a standing position to sitting is an eccentric contraction.
Hearing a birdsong, even virtual ones, are proven to improve mental health. A huge study in King College, London and published in Scientific report show listening to a bird's chirping sound for 1 second improves mental wellbeing for 8 hours 😮
Mindfulness-based stress reduction such as body scan and gratitude journaling. Research shows that these activities work as effective as an antidepressant medicine. Here is a free body scan mindfulness exercise on 7 Cups.
If you want to focus, don't just rely on willpower, reduce distractions. Pretty obvious tip that we often try to dodge. And this reminds me of one of the coursework on LDP about distraction.
Food and smells bring back memories instantly. So, whenever you're having a pleasant experience try to notice what you smell, and eat something mindfully. Healthy ones preferably. Then you can use it in the future to try to hack happiness.
Next is mundane secret guilty pleasures that we hide from our closest person. It is okay and fun. Research shows that little guilty feelings which don't hurt anybody give us motivation to be better.
Self-acceptance has the biggest impact on your happiness, sense of purpose, or general quality of life, but it's often the one we practice the least.

Just for fun, we're not going to make podcast, but… how fast can you read this tongue twister:
If you must cross a course cross cow across a crowded cow crossing, cross the cross coarse cow across the crowded cow crossing carefully.
And if comfortable you're welcome to share vocaroo link to your recorded audio. Kindly note to only share tongue twister record above.

I start all my mornings of with a good podcast! I’ve yet to listen to Mel Robbins podcast though. I will make note to check it out.
Mindful eating is something I’ve been reading a lot more about! I think it’s definitely something I’m interested in learning more about and implementing this year! Thanks for sharing :) 💜

Smell actions with big impacts. The positive impact of listening to bird songs was the most surprising, but I don't doubt the research. I've always known nature is a great healer.

Looking at this again, please correct previous response to Small actions*
I wasn't aware of bird chirping sound being good for our mental health being. Now I know why I feel so relaxed around those beautiful little birds around me when I talk about a walk in the woods. ♥️
Thank you so much for such a knowledgeable post 💜 and keep it up!
Waiting for some more such podcast posts. I feel like this is a unique way to learn something new and share what you already knew!
Have a splendid week 💙
Love,
-Angel

I find Mel Robbins to be more helpful {to me, at least} than others in the self-help space. I would definitely check out her podcast to see if there is anything there for you.
