I'd dated close to 20 people at this point, and I wanted to end most of those relationships before they ended them for me.
I guess I knew deep down that it hurts even more to burn a bridge.
It was my day off, and the roads were icy. I was just trying to eat some curry at home and I'd been wondering why she didn't text me for a week. At least she didn't pull this on a workday again, but it was more passive-aggressive gaslighting. I should've never agreed to give it another shot. Finally, someone pushed me to it. I couldn't deal with it anymore... I had to dump her, and when she said she hoped for me to find someone else, I said I hoped she'd figure out what she actually wants.
I messaged my friend and got online to play some Castle Crashers with him to take my mind off it, but he ended up making me talk about it. We never made it out of the town shop area, and I might've broken down a little. I can still hear that acoustic-sounding town music loop haunting me sometimes. Not that I mind it.
In the end, I don't mind any of it. I can honestly say that I tried in that relationship, and when she was messaging me and making me feel like I wasn't good enough, it made me want to get better, but not for her. I started working out seriously, exploring more, taking on more projects, getting more out of life. Somehow, I achieved a measure of happiness and numbness out of it. I think a strength to stand up for myself had been growing, and now I just feel like a gentle giant, making the world a nicer and funner place without letting anyone put a dent in me.
In execution, it's not that easy, and I have a lot of new ongoing battles. I don't have to be alone now, but it's because I had to be enough on my own to build something worth keeping around me.
