“Write about a passion you have that's worth facing your fears to pursue.”
I have ridden motorcycles for 45+ years. Have ridden most kinds of bikes like standard, naked, and cruisers. And in many different conditions like offroad, street, snow, rain, and high heat. Great fears I face to ride motorcycles are the other people. While motorcycle fatalities are fairly high, something like 13%. For every 100k riders, it is like 0.1% will be in an accident. What isn’t in the statistics are numbers that are avoidable.
Like Prostate Cancer. There is something like 34k deaths a year. That is ~90 some men will die each day from something that is preventable. Prostate cancer is curable, so early detection from an examination or testing can prevent these deaths.
Motorcycles can be in the same category. For starters, wearing proper gear, proper is the keyword here. For riding on the streets, full face helmets only with proper ratings. Full face helmets protect the head as much as the air ways (nose and mouth) and protect from debris (rocks) picked up by trucks and cars. Then jacket. A jacket that has abrasion protection (like Kevlar) with CE armor at elbows, shoulders, and back. Gloves, any time you fall or trip, you put your hands out to break\brace your fall. On a bike you do the same thing, but you’re going much faster than a walking speed. Next is pants. Pants with CE armor in the knees, and abrasion resistant from road rash. Jeans will not provide any protection from the ground. Proper riding pants will have Kevlar. Last but not least, shoes. Sneakers will never ever work. A proper shoe for the streets will have steel toe protection. Extremely rigid sole, thick reinforced ankle protection. Purpose of the shoe is to protect your feet (and potentially shins) from road debris, and from the bike. I hope it never happens but if the bike comes down on your leg, you need some protection.
Next, situational awareness. If you keep your head on a swivel and keeping an eye on everything around you. You can avoid 95+ % of possible accidents. Positioning yourself for escape path, for drivers do not always pay attention. Giving enough space between you and the car in front of you. Being alert physically, meaning getting enough sleep, proper nutrients. Being alert mentally, if you are having a bad day. Leave at home or at work. While riding, you need to be mentally aware. Which then leads into ‘Road Rage’. Who cares who’s first. You’re not going to get extra points for being first or being ‘right’. Let us just enjoy the freedom of riding and riding safe.

All I have to say is "HERE, HERE!" WONDERFUL advice! 🤩 I would like to add, however, make sure your bike is as loud as legally possible. That way if a car doesn't SEE you, you've upped your chances that he might HEAR you, thus upping your chances of avoiding a possible accident.
The other thing I'd REALLY like to stress is: Even if it matters a great deal to you that you're right, and even if you ARE right...IT DOESN'T MATTER!!!
Because EVERYONE on that road is BIGGER than you and also better protected by the steel of their vehicle. And where I come from, bigger and better ALWAYS trumps. 🌹

@blueAngel00
"Because EVERYONE on that road is BIGGER"
That is so true.
That is where the philosophy of "Ride like you are invisible" comes into play. Not ride like where the police sees you. But on the lines that everyone is oblivious to your existence.
(From the perspective of my dungeons and dragons character, John. John is terrified of the dark and is claustrophobic, but will sell his soul for a good rock or crystal, and is willing to go into caves to find them)
The darkness is closing in around me
The walls crushing my sides and i can't breathe
I'm overwhelmed but in the middle of my mind
The eye of the storm of fear
A glowing stone
Crystal clear
I know what I have to do to get away
Escaping towards the light of day
But hey this rock is really cool
I've got the skills and all the tools
So I'l get it quick before I break
And then once I've got my treasure I'll keep it close
And get outside where the sky is open and free
And then I'll finally get to breathe
[I love John he is so silly]
I have been reading but not participating. I love writing and taught writing novels might be the thing for me but now I know it's not. I can write stories, mostly short stories, and very often for children. But what I mostly end up writing are ideas about love. That is my passion. It's not about romantic love, but love for anyone, anywhere, in almost any given situation. My fear of putting anything out there is that people will look at it and think I'm a hypocrite because I don't ALWAYS practice what I preach. I mostly do, but I also have anger, frustration, resentment times and get mired in that for just a moment. So far my writing has been mostly only to help me focus on spreading that love, but It would mean so much to me if I could help others to see the love around them, and spread the love around them.
@adaptableOcean4193
While here, who is writing or who is posting? We only know you as "AdaptableOcean4193" not the person sitting in the chair or sofa. That is why people use "nom de plume" because they can become creative while still walk the streets as they were.
@adaptableOcean4193
I hate to be the one to burst your "berating yourself" bubble, but i don't think there's EVER been a human, and probably never will be, who ALWAYS practices what they preach. We ARE human, after all, and we're ALL afflicted with those pesky things (that ALWAYS get in my way) called emotions. Damn, I'm the first in line to commend you for being able to only allow yourself a measly MOMENT of miredom (no, I don't think that's a word, but as my hubby says ... if you can spell it, it's a word. Works for me!) 😁
I would love to read some of your stuff. Trust me, I need all the love I can get, and these days there's absolutely NO evidence of any in my world. (Yes, I'm at the "pity-party" stage of my latest episode, and I'm throwing one hellofa one this time that should beat all others... past and future!)
If you think that might be doable with you, please send me a private message. And i might have something else that you may be interested in that could eventually get your work where you want it to be.
Anywhose, please let me know your thoughts either way. And no matter what, hypocritical or not, 😉 keep that writing up, because writing is one of the most therapeutic things you can do for yourself. 🌹
Take care.

I wanted to thank you for your encouragement. I wanted to write you a big blubbery beautiful one explaining exactly what you did to help but alas my stroke brain would not bring the words. I will tell you that happens most especially when someone has done something big towards helping me. So without further ado here is your cheap thank you, but it is big in my heart.
@adaptableOcean4193
No thanks are necessary so any thanks are warmly welcomed and never judged.
I meant everything I said, and in my world, everything I said is fact.
Quit being so hard on yourself. The rest of the world has that covered for you.
Big huge hugs!

Pulling at the doorknob, tugging, begging, crying, pleading. I was just tired of being hit and thrown around. The last thing I ever wanted to do was actually fight, but it was the only thing that worked.
The passion I'll mention here definitely isn't fighting, not constructive sparring really, it isn't even martial arts per se, but it's feeling capable. I'm the kind of person that is predisposed to training my mind and doing pretty introverted hobbies. But, I've had to defend myself before, I've got just a few notches under my belt, and I know what real danger and aggression looks like.
Kung Fu is one that I haven't gotten to take in a long time, but it gave me a lot of moves, and an enviable grace and precision. I felt like a ninja when I caught an upside-down falling can of spaghettios and got it right-side-up without a mess. I also recognized my specific style of martial arts at a random street show... Also recognized that Reptile in Mortal Kombat uses that style. (Hung Gar)
Kendo is a more recent one, gives a good workout, great for joints, and helps me feel like I can react correctly to anything if I focus.
Taking interest in krav maga and kickboxing too. I need to be serious about protecting myself and my loved ones. I won't always have help or a weapon.
But the main thing I use it all for? Not feeling frail or depressed. It helps with that. I'm also predisposed to depression, and I just want to feel capability in all that I do without feeling like I should be doing more. I recommend it to anyone that can. I just hope that everyone I meet doesn't have to defend themselves the way I have. I still fear that. But I face it every day. Better that way.
My grandfather was the person who has most helped in my lifetime. He is no longer here and he knows the love and thankfulness I have for him. My sisters and my daughters were there for me at my worst points during hospitalization and shortly after. And the people here have really made a difference in my life as I'm recovering. Most especially @compassionateoak202, The fact that you are sharing your journey and trusting us with your vulnerability, at the same time you are encouraging and helping others. You are an inspiration.
