"What Happens Next" 😯? - Week of May 1, 2023
Hello lovely writing community!
‘What Happens Next?’ is an interesting forum activity where you get to choose how a situation turns out! The rules are simple:
We would provide you with a situational prompt.
You would reply to this post with a creative ending of your own in response to the situation given to you.
Prompt:
Irene had always had a difficult time remembering people’s names. What happens when suddenly she cannot get the name of a certain historical figure out of her head no matter how much she tried?
Get together to create as many alternate endings as possible! (Parallel universe, who? It’s Content Subcommunity universe!) Please make sure that your entry is not more than 800 words.

Irene just sat there trying to remember the figure she was just talking about to her friends, what was their name? she though. She countinued to sit there while her friends just sat there waiting for her to continue. Irene smiled at her friends and chuckled.
"Their name seems to have just slipped my mind." She said and then look at her best friend who was smiling at her. Her best friends name was-
Wait what was her name....she looked around and only saw familier faces but names left unknown. She gulped and was starting to breath heavier with fear....what was wrong with her. Her friends looked worried and started asking-
"Irene is everything ok?"
She looked at them in shock...was that her name? How could she forget her own name, oanic washed over her and then she closed her eyes for a secound and opened them.
"William Shakesphere...that's who I was talking about" She said
Suddnely she rembembered everything, as if her brain had just been reset. Weird she thought then went back to eating her lunch.

I like how your writing style was able to give a really relatable look into the mental dialogue someone goes through when they're trying to remember something while interacting with the people around them

"Who were you out with last night?" Irene's mother demanded again.
It was her best friend, and the one name she could drop that wouldn't necessarily get her into trouble, but she couldn't even think of the name. Her head was in her hands on the table in front of her as she scrunched her forehead. "You know I don't do well with names, mom."
"So, it's someone new that you shouldn't have been out late with?"
"Mom, it was just Alex!" Irene blurted out, hoping she got it right, because it was the only name she could think of.
"Alex?" Her mom asked, more offended. "Is that a boy?"
"I hang out with her all the time", Irene said into her hands, starting to want to cry. Why couldn't she think of her name?
"Alex WHO?" Her mom pressed.
"Alex Trebek!" Irene started sobbing.
"Go to your room!"

Irene was laying down in her pillows, trying to breathe deep. She couldn't even remember her best friend's name tonight. What was wrong? Was she going senile?
Suddenly her phone rang.
She saw the number, and picked up. It was the girl in her group project.
"Hey Alex", she said, moving to lay on her back.
"Alex?" Said the girl on the other end.
"Yeah," Irene moved on to one elbow, "This is Alex Trebek right?"
"Are you in Jeopardy or something?"
Irene started sobbing loudly. "Yes! I am in jeopardy, I can't remember anyone's name, which is always, but now I keep thinking everyone's name is Alex Trebek!"
"I'm so sorry," said the girl on the other end... And then started laughing.
"What's so funny?" Irene asked tiredly, feeling like she was getting made fun of.
"Who is Thea Albrecht?" Asked the girl.
"Thea... Albrecht..." Irene struggled to remember, and then her eyes went wide with excitement, "The girl in my Science class project group... That's you!"
"Correct for zero hundred dollars!," Thea said, clapping in the background. "That totally worked, maybe it helps if you start with the name first."
Irene felt happy in that moment; it was true, she hadn't done that in a while, and maybe it would work. "Thank you Alex Trebek," she sighed out while laying back again with a smile.
@Torean This gave me such a chuckle while reading xD I really enjoyed it! Lol the randomness of Alex Trebek coming out of the girl's name during such a serious moment, and then it ended up being a very creative named that sounded similar 😅 Great job this week, I could see this being a really funny video skit
