How is life where you live ?
Hey everyone !
I recently graduated from university (I’m a licensed psychologist now), but what I really want is to live abroad. I want to build a life for myself somewhere else.
Right now I live in Brasil (my home country)
I’ve been to few countries before : USA (where I spent 1 year for cultural exchange), Ireland, Germany, Czech and Poland. I’ve always wanted to live abroad, but I don’t know where to start, I get completely lost when I need to start researching, planning and all, so feels like I’m not “moving”.
If any of you had experiences moving abroad to share, tips and all, I’d love to hear!! Thank you 🩷

I lived abroad and travelled the world for many years.
I just followed my instincts and ended up in places I never considered but always ended up being the right place.
I was open to meeting new people and trying new experiences out of my own comfort zone.

I don't know if my experience can be relatable but I think it does. I loved to travel abroad and visit Europe, especially the UK and Italy. However, I had issues with my mental illness and could just graduate with a BA in psychology and worked as a psychotherapist under supervision. I couldn't achieve the travel to any country yet but I could connect with foreign people and exchange the cultures online and this felt like the same to travel in real life I guess. I didn't feel distant and could travel anywhere I want just online and also share my voice and my online content with foreign people with different backgrounds.

Here our BA in psychology is equivalent to a PsyD, so we study for 5 years, have multiple internships where we experience the real work life and then when we graduate we are allowed to have patients and work at clinics, hospitals, have our own patients etc (unsupervised). So I think it’s different from country to country as I saw.
It’s so great you use internet to connect with people abroad, I’m glad you’re here and interacted with my topic. And you’re correct, when we talk to people from other countries we can get a “taste” of what it is outside. Hopefully soon you’ll be able to see everything by yourself and get to know all the places you want 🩷🩷

I live in the United States. I am from a small town in the south. I do enjoy the community and support system I have in my area. I do wish it offered more opportunities for creative people like me. I currently live with my parents. I say look for a good support system and area that needs psychologists. I have many friends and a brother that sought that field. They are not working in that field of study. Look for economic growth and affordable housing too.

Oh it’s always great to have a nice community support system. The time I spent in the USA was nice as well, I have nothing to complain about. Have you ever tried to look for online opportunities? Every now and then I see job offers/online courses for creative area. Oh yes I’m always researching about market and costs, that’s something I always consider, I prefer places with affordable costs too.
I’m not sure if I understood, sorry, so your brother and friends are psychologists but they couldn’t find opportunities in that field? English is not my first language so I get a little lost sometimes.

I’ve lived in the USA my entire life. I was born in Denver Colorado and moved to Virginia a couple years ago. I’ve never been outside of the country and I’m afraid I never will. It’s just expensive and I don’t have any savings to fund such a venture. I would love to though, if I could go anywhere right now, it would probably be New Zealand. I’m not sure I really fit into my country anymore, feeling really detached from society lately. Which is weird, because from my perspective, I just want everyone to be cared for and live a happy healthy productive life. Things in my country have become an order of magnitude more divisive year over year since the 1990’s, and to be honest, I’d move if I could. People tell me that I should, but how can I if I can’t even afford a plane ticket or the country won’t let me in or blah blah blah 😒
@RickestRick86 I’ve never been to those places in the USA, but heard about it a lot. And yeah you’re right, it’s pricey to move abroad, if we don’t have savings we go through some bad shi… not recommend. I heard good things about NZ, I’d definitely visit, but not sure if I’d live there. I see where you’re coming from tho when you say about how you feel, the detachment feeling is something I can relate when I think about reasons I want to move.
Damn, plane tickets can be expensive as *** don’t they? Oh wouldn’t they let you in? I thought this nightmare was more of a Latino privilege 😂 I tried to get a tourist visa to United States back in 2024 and was denied (they said I had no proof enough that I was coming back to Brazil, even tho I was working at a public institution and at university at that time lmao) and with two previous approved visas. Damn I was so mad, because to even get an appointment and all is pricey, so you loose money, time, and get denied🤡

That’s fantastic news!! Life is going great for me! Just about to start filming a new movie in a tropical location! Living abroad is exciting it all depends on what you want from it! I stay in different locations depending on the filming! 3 months in Punta Cana then 2 months in Sri Lanka etc And again congratulations on your degree!

Sure it’s called adventures in autism it’s similar to a 1980s movie adventures in babysitting! In my movie a teenager is given the responsibility to watch the neighborhood non verbal autistic kid, as the parents finally get a much deserved break! As the babysitter is on the phone with her homegirls the kid escapes to go find his parents! He is befriended by the local drug dealers and gang members who give him The nickname ( lil dude from across the street) It’s a crazy comedy they have to find and get him back before they all are grounded forever! It will be released next summer on Vimeo on demand for viewing purchase!!!…. Punta Cana is similar to where you are tropical paradise (laughing)

Haha yeah some people call Brasil tropical paradise, and indeed we have some wonderful spots here, especially beaches.
