They have hangis here, which is a traditional Maori way of cooking food, by steaming it (usually meat and vegetables) underground! You dig the hole beforehand. I've only ever tried it once though.
Other than that I think NZ is known internationally for our pavlova (like a meringue dessert), pineapple lumps (chocolate-coated sweets), fish and chips (lol), and we also eat a lot of kumara (sweet potato) 🍠
And yes there are a lot of sheep here 😂 🐑

I've never prepared one myself so I'm not equipped to explain it well, but I think you dig a hole in the dirt and place heated rocks at the bottom (they are heated really hot with a fire. The fire can be built under the rocks, with the embers removed once the fire goes out, or they can be heated separately beforehand in a fire built outside of the hole). Once the rocks are heated properly and in the hole (and the fire is put out), the food is placed on top, in wire baskets lined with particular types of leaves (e.g., cabbage), and then this is covered with wet sacks and finally by burying it with dirt to cover it up. It's then left for a few hours and the hot rocks steam the food underground. Once it's been long enough, you dig it up again and it's all cooked with a smoky flavor 😊
And pineapple lumps are like a slightly chewy, pineapple-flavoured candy coated in chocolate 😋 they're quite good!

What is hokey pokey ice cream?
If you’re a Kiwi, Hokey Pokey needs no introduction! For the rest of the world though, those words are just hocus pocus. Hokey Pokey ice cream is one of the most popular ice creams in New Zealand, perhaps second only to plain ol’ vanilla ice cream.
It’s a quintessentially Kiwi treat where rich creamy vanilla ice cream is mixed with crunchy bits of honeycomb toffee (i.e. hokey pokey).

Anzac biscuits
Anzac biscuits are delicious oat and coconut cookies with a rich buttery, sweet taste and they can be made crunchy or chewy.
My brain saw the name and thought “Aztec” lol
