For us (Turkey), back then, Ottoman Empire had a way of serving coffees with a glass of water. When you visit somebody, they would bring it, and look which one of them you drink first. If you drunk the coffee, everything is fine. But if you finished your cup of water first, then you must be hungry and they could also serve you something to fill your stomach. It was very kind how they did many things. ☕ 🥄
@needhelpwithOCD we never say "I am going", we say "I am going and will come back". there are special word forms for this in our regional language. and not saying it will get you called out by anyone. they believe if you say i am going, it means you will pass away and wont come back. so believe me when people are adamant to make you say the second one 😂

I am from India, and we touch feet of elders out of respect.
We show hospitality by using "po" and "opo", a courtesy of showing respect, which is also correspondent to a polite response. And calls older woman — sister; older man as brother. 👐🏼
