@7Bear7 The first question, it was so that they had a choice between obeying God or not obeying God. We live with the same choice today. Only things are in reverse. In those days people started out as good, but had to chose to be evil. Now people start out bad, and must chose to be good. People are not robots. We need that freedom of choice to make the concept of love work. I hope that answers your question about the tree of good and evil being in the garden.
That second question, I got no idea.

Why do people still believe in free will when the bulk of evidence points toward determinism (if not necessarily hard determinism or that of any particular type)? Also, how can freedom of any kind exist--to say nothing of the idea of human rights--when all of that is based on the assumption that people freely make decisions...that is, a faulty assumption?
